Adaptive Cruise Control / Forward Collision Warning


Are these features worthwhile? How about with a manual transmission? Mustang is one of the few cars that this can be had with a manual. Most car manufactures force you into an Auto, or worse, a CVT to get this. I am guessing that a manual transmission engages the driver more, making forward radar less of a benefit. Whereas autos and CVTs can be snooze machines, or encourage distractions such as cell phones.

I like both. I commute a lot, so the adaptive cruise is very handy. It's definitely not afraid to slow the car down A LOT if someone gets in front of you.

The forward collision warning comes in handy occasionally if you are zoning off or if traffic really comes to a stop and you aren't slowing fast enough. Sometimes it can be annoying if someone is slowing to turn into a parking lot in front of you, but you can adjust the sensitivity.

I like both and will never buy another car that doesn't have this option. It saved my ass backing out of a parking spot next to a large van when an idiot came through the parking lot at a high speed.

Wouldn't that be the cross-traffic alert?

ACC is junk in Ford, I know as a current owner of an ACC module that went out at 40k miles. It costs about $2,000 to replace, so save up for that if you want your cruise control to work at all. Nice feature when it works though.

You don't suppose ACC might eventually teach people - all by itself - that they no longer have to monitor speed and following distances quite as closely any more??? Sounds like more opportunity for folks to do things other than drive the car to me.

No thoughts on forward collision, as long as the driver actually does remain engaged with the tasks of driving. Makes me wonder if this is intended as a crutch for unintended ACC-induced consequences, though.

You are right. When I order I loaded up with everything and forgot which package had what. But I do like the adaptive cruise control package and which I had it on our SUV.

Agreed on cross-traffic alters, which comes with the BLIS package. I don't find the blind spot monitoring terribly useful, but the cross-traffic alerts are very useful when backing out of a spot with SUVs on either side of you blocking the view.

agreed! occasionally at the gas station it gives me a false alarm, but I'd rather be safe than get rear ended!

I think the adaptive cruise control would be nice but I'm not completely sold on the front collision warning feature. I've never driven a car with it though. It may be amazing, but so is keeping your eyes on the road...

well you can always turn off the collision warning if it bugs you

I agree the Blind Spot Detection leaves a lot to be desired. Should come with the wide angle mirrors and a led warning dot at least as large as a dime. Moving from one car to another I'm unaware of the little led at times.
