I am switching gears for a change, I haven't had an auto since 2005 and I am ordering my 2015 GT Convertible 5.0 with the Automatic Trans.

This goes to the 2011-2014 5.0 owners with automatic.
I will not race this car as it will be my daily driver. Do you guys like this transmission? Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you are dead set on an auto trans, it might be worth to wait a little while to see if the new 10 speeds will debut in the 2016 model year.

If the gentleman doesn't care to wait until August for a complete redesign, I disbelieve he's likely willing to wait two years for a different automatic slushbox.
As it is, I was wondering his question myself.

I had both, I prefer the auto. The 6R80 auto is more reliable, can handle a ton more power, and is consistent at the track. The MT-82 is a notchy tempermental trans that I found no joy in driving, even after my first one broke and they replaced it.

Thanks for the quick replies gentlemen. I am not waiting for the 2016 or beyond as my mind is made up on the color and type of vehicle. Originally I wanted a Oxford White GT coupe with a 6 speed trans and a 3:55 rear end. Now I am going with the Ragtop, in Guard, with a black top and auto. My current ride is Performance White with a 6 speed trans and the 3:55 rear. The 2015 is all new It's time for a complete change.
PS: Any additional info good or bad on the auto would be great.

noob question, but does the MT82 refer to the manual transmission or an auto thats changed from the outgoing model to the new '15 stang?

I'm highly considering an auto too!

Also, anyone familiar with the paddle shifting or select o shifting have any feedback?

I constantly use my paddleshifters on my fr-s to slow down coming to a light or when getting on the highway and its pretty quick responding

MT82 is the manual from 2011+ and will be in 2015. 6R80 is the Auto

There is nothing bad about the auto it's a beast and can handle up to 1000hp with no work. You just gotta spend $1000 on a good converter to have the most fun in an automatic

I have a 2013 with the 6R80 and it's a great transmission. I don't use the select shift very often because it's just not practical due to location and feel. I would, however, use it more often if I had paddles. The Sport Mode is pretty damn nice though, except that it will let the motor redline. It does shift a little harder/quicker in this mode and the way it holds gear for racing is awesome.

I wish there was an in between mode though, because Sport Mode is fun, but no overdrive in that mode, so you're limited to a 5-speed. Great for the track, terrible if you want to have a little fun and keep it in that mode when hitting the highway. Now, the S550 will have rev matching plus paddles, so it should be excellent.

I originally got the auto so that my wife could drive it if needed, but she hasn't driven it a single time since I got her. I was considering moving back to a manual, but I absolutely detested the MT82 in my 2011. Missed and/or grinding shifts were a ridiculous common occurrence for me, especially in 2nd, 3rd and 6th, ensuring the clutch was fully depressed.

Thanks for the reply. You answered some of my questions. I have never been impressed with my MT82. It has always been notchy I didn't pay $34,000.00 for a noisy, hard shifting trans. It has been a good car with 50000 miles on it but Ford could do much better in the trans department.
Thanks again.

Well, what was the manual transmission prior to 2011? Prior to 2005? Same in both the V6 and V8? Were they also screwed up? Why does FOrd put a screwy manual in its Mustang?

And what and when was the automatic prior to the 6R80? Was it only back to 2011 also? How was it before that?

Is it okay if I ask these questions or do I have to start a new thread??

Apparently you noticed my intent.

Switching gears means changing direction. I have owned 26 cars that were stick shift and 5 that were automatics.
