Thanks mike!

I would hate too risk having it diagnosed before I got the extended service plan though. I saw a lot of people only got partially covered on this thread if they were out of warranty. If I’m going to spend $500 + to fix this I rather just spend the $1600 on a warranty that covers my whole car. Guess I have some thinking to do

@Monica_Stang The hot side/cold side is classic evap core symptoms. I would politely but firmly speak with your service writer. Let him know you're aware of the evap core issues that the 15-17 Mustang's have (point him to this thread and others like it if needed). Also point out that you were experiencing AC issues previously, you feel this is just a further degradation of those issues and request that they fix under warranty.

If you read through this thread, some folks have had to contact Ford Care after the dealer told them no and Ford honored the fix. Hope this helps

Evap core repair/replacement has been averaging anywhere from $1500 - $2000. There is a TSB on this and I would suggest you call Ford Care directly. Quite a few folks have been having good luck on getting some compensation regarding this known issue. Especially if your Evaporator is still OEM and now defective.

Well that’s the problem “some” compensation still isn’t really going to cut it and I might as well put the money towards a warranty that covers a bunch of other parts.

I also don’t want to document that I have this problem by calling them since I’m probably going to buy An extended service plan tomorrow and have my issue be covered under that

FF sake stop complaining and get to a resolution... "Some" is better than nothing.. You asked, we answered so deal with it.. Damn.

It's weird that's it's an evap core issue since there is only one core. You can't have half the core be warmer than the other.

I wonder if the cars showing this symptom have a dual zone climate and the mixing flapper is failed so you get hot on one side or the other.
From all the postings, it pretty much sounds like an evaporator replacement fixes that symptom which happens when the A/C system starts getting low on refrigerant. If you had a leak anywhere in the system it could show the same symptom (warm driver's side vent and cold passenger side vent). It just so unfortunately happens that a failing evaporator core is typically the source of the A/C system leak.

the issue is where the leak is not the core.

Thanks for that, will have to check out the shifter seal, as that's quite possible. I have attached an image of my car after being "dismantled", as you can see, pretty much everything between the firewall and rear seats was removed

Hi nzS550,

Your car was RHD, I do own a 2016 Mustang at Malaysia. A/C evaporator leak. From what I know, Ford US, do offer only evaporator change for LHD mustang, this I order base on the bulletin part number. But the evaporator was unable to use at RHD mustangs. Piping direction different. Do you know the RHD mustang evaporator from Ford?

Below was the evaporator picture, top was FR3Z-19860-A, for LHD, below was original from my car, for RHD (not part number indicator on the evaporator)

Best to contact a Ford dealer in your country so they can look up the correct part number for the RHD cars.

In Malaysia, Ford Malaysia didn’t bring this model in. But it being in from local car seller, we call it decon. So basically, most of the car consider used car.

But when I check v Ford. They only give whole assembly part number.

Australia do have many of this mustang, hope can get some info from them.

Thanks.

Well, it looks like I have the evaporator core issue too! Just 3 months out of warranty and I get in my car to go home. Driver side blowing hot air, passenger side seems quite a bit cooler. I dropped the car of at the dealer this morning and told them what I've been reading about this. They said they would try to work me in and call me with the diagnosis. Are any of you getting any help on compensation? It's going to be 97 here today. I just want it fixed.

Dealership just called $1500 and 3 days to fix. Told me I was right, evap core leaking. Ugh.....

Some folks have had good luck contacting Ford and getting some kind of compensation out of warranty regarding this issue. Worth a phone call I would think.

I can't recall if anyone has mentioned it or not. Can the AC system pressure sensor readings be seen on an OBD2 scanner (ie, real time PID data)?

Is so, I would think that would be a good way to measure the AC sysyem charge state (high and low pressure side) and the compressor health without using external gauges.

Just got a call from the regional service rep and he was able to cut my repair bill by almost 2/3! Thank you for your suggestion.
