Sorry but it’s the seal that retract the pistonThat's not quite true, the piston seal is a seal keeping the bore of the caliper free of contamination, so as not to bind.
The pad retracts as the fluid pressure decreases - neutralizes. Second, a rotor that has run out or as you say is warped. Will cause the pedal to pulsate when the brake is applied.
The seal has a square shape and deform slightly when brake are applied. Once fluid pressure is removed, the seal go back to its original shape and drag the piston back with it
