One benefit of the prop rod over the struts would be that you can open the hood up further back towards the windshield and prop on the secondary hole to get better clearance to the engine.
I hope that is the case.
Looks tighter towards the two front corners, the airbox seems to take a more extreme angle towards the rear (suggesting it's avoiding something towards the front driver side corner, the items around the engine look more closely spaced, and mainly, looks like the engine is much closer to the hood (look at the difference in distance between the top of the motor and the top of the firewall).I'm not understanding all the 'cramped' comments. How is it any tighter than the S197?
I am most certainly hoping so. A prop rod of course wouldn't spoil it but it is the small things that make an overall package. And no need to leave these things for auto journalists to rag on.
R35 GT-R also had a prop rod - no biggy there. It more has to do with the weight saving then the cost. If you want struts the entire bonnet construction needs to be stiffer.
What is deal with the wanting hood struts? I get they are more high tech but every damn car I ever worked on that was more than a few years old when I was a mechanic that had hood struts they were going out. You had to use something to prop up the hood because the owner did not want to pay $50 each for the replacements.. I would stick with a prop rod and worry about one less thing.
