Twin clutch transmissions still use valvebodies and software, so if anything an actual auto with a torque converter will be smoother and more comfortable in traffic. Twin clutch transmissions are still too clunky for me a low speeds, they aren't as good at slipping a clutch as a human. When racing yes they are lightning fast but take the fun out of shifting yourself.
Yeah, but the valve body serves a much different purpose. The DCT still uses gears mounted on a shaft like a manual, not planetary gears and bands like an auto.

The valvebody does the same thing, directs fluid pressure to engage/disengage shift elements. The bands and clutch packs(or just clutch packs in most modern autos) can hold tremendous power and torque requiring very few upgrades. The DCT will only work as well as the software allows, just like an auto. Early BMW DCT transmissions had issues engaging two gears at the same time because of a software issue.

I have dct on my s4 and want to go back to a manual like my 2010 gt had. Audi's dct is one of the best but it's still a bit clunky at low speeds and the same feel of control isn't there as a manual. The down shift and upshifts are a thing to behold tho lighting fast and accurate throttle blips. But I am ok with giving that up to get that manual feel back.

To the OP as others have suggested get yourself in a manual car for a weekend or so and have someone teach you it will go faster than self learning. If you like it order one with it... If not go for the auto. Ford has said they made a number of improvements to the auto including blipped downshifts so if you don't like manual it will be a better auto than previous mustangs.

I would never buy a Mustang in automatic. Learn the manual and you will have a lot of fun. It's not hard and once you learn it you will enjoy. Like learning to ride a bike, just dedicate a weekend and get a friend with a junky car that doesn't mind if you are learning on it and go to a huge open parking lot and practice. Best will be if said friend will ride along and show you what to do....But in the end you have to get the hang of it yourself.

I just don't understand how anyone could buy an automatic. The thought of owning one puts me to sleep. Manual trans give you a connection to your car which you just can't get with an auto ( my first car was an xr falcon s pack with auto)and where I'm from learning to drive an auto is a bonafide reason to hand in your man card.

Ditto.

Also if people ask me if my GTO is a manual or automatic I tell them automatic and let them know it beats the manual at the dragstrip. ;)

Maybe its not just me but does anyone else get sick of this auto vs. manual debate that seems to occur at EVERY car site on the interwebz? The whole argument is played out. Buy what you love and what you want and who gives a flying shit who cares one way or the other. Performance is performance. Its the tools driving Prius and Camry and the like that deserve our scorn. ;)

Two thoughts from me:

1) I borrowed my dad's auto truck. Every auto car feels the same to me, like sitting on a couch pressing buttons.

2) My bicycle has paddle shifters.

My $.02....I just love the feeling of being in a particular gear (2nd, or 3rd) driving a manual when traveling at a reasonable speed and having that instant punch you get when you hit it.

For me it's always auto with a tune.....tune that baby and it's a beast. Manuals are a pain in the city. Stop and go traffic for miles and miles.

Not really a problem for those that live in the middle of nowhere.
