I was in Mexico last week and had an interesting encounter with a 2018+ GT. Not sure if it was a 6spd or a 10spd auto. I was about a mile from the onramp when a gray 5.0 blew past me and cut in and out of traffic like a maniac to get in front of the cars. As traffic thinned I punched it to catch him and when he noticed me riding his ass, he punched it again right before slowing down and getting into the turn lane. The turn lane has no signal and you have to slow to about 20mph or less as you get onto the freeway on-ramp.
Anyway, as soon as he straightens out he floors it and takes off. I was in 1st gear at 20mph or so and punched it myself. When I shifted to 2nd, I immediately started catching him. Shifted to 3rd gear at 60mph and was on his bumper by 70 at which point I had to let off because he wasn't pulling away no more. He did not let off the throttle, so I floored it again and was right on his ass again. I had to do that about 3 times until he slowed down from 100 to merge onto the freeway.
As we got on the freeway we were both doing about 65mph and he floored it as soon as he had a clear area in front of him. I was still behind him at this point and once again I was right on his ass the whole time. We slowed for traffic one more time and when traffic cleared, I was doing 55 behind him. As soon as it was free in front of us, he floored it, and I got over a line and followed suit. At 100 I passed him and at 130 he was a couple cars behind me. I was pretty impressed that he had the jump, and I still managed to pass him.
As we went past another on-ramp I noticed a Federale getting on the freeway so I looked down and noticed my speed of 130 so I slowed without hitting the brakes. The Mustang driver blew past me as I was doing about 110 and ricer flashed me with his hazards.. The Federale must have noticed him because he flew past me as well. Pretty sure the Mustang had noticed at this point. The popo car paced him for about a mile and then got over a lane and went around him without turning on his lights. (I would have felt bad if he would have been pulled over after losing to a shit box Corolla that the popo didn't think was part of it lol).
The Corolla is a 6-speed manual with AWD and the best time I ever ran stock was a 13.8 at 99mph. It didn't stay stock for long though and has the following mods:
Denstoj Rocker Retainers
Kelford 267-A Cams
Kelford Valve Springs
Lamspeed Head Bolts & Vulcan Cut Head Gasket
Artec 400 Turbo
Jackson Racing FMIC
Limit +1 Downpipe w/ High Flow Cat
Eventuri Intake ($1600 for a fucking intake!!?!?!?!?!)
Tuned using ECUTek by Boosted Performance Racing
I could not find a single shop in my area to do the work, so I drove it to Chicago (1500+ miles) and dropped it off for a month to have the engine rebuilt and new turbo, FMIC, CF hood installed.
The car put out 276whp/270wtq on the dyno before the mods and after all the above it's at 363whp/322wtq. That is on 91 octane pump gas. E40 would require an injector upgrade but 400whp would be in reach. (my transmission would probably not survive so I'm holding off until I can have it rebuilt with new hubs).
Not bad for a 3cylinder engine. Last time I was at the strip I was babying it on launch and ran a 13.6@107mph. Waaaay worse 60' due to not launching it hard but the MPH is up quite a bit in hotter temps too.
I used to own a 2018 GT and then a 2019 GT. Both had the A10. Took them to the strip quite a bit after installing a Roush P2 on them but never really had a lot of time down the strip stock. I think my best run ever stock on street tires was a 12.7 @ 113 or so. I have never seen a stock one at test and tune get much better without a good DR. I had many runs at the strip after putting the Roush on them and the best time I had was a 10.7@135. Traded the 2nd one about a year ago for the GR.
