My 1st time going to the track at summit point was in February Cold weather on all season tires.
Mostly stock car except a tune, exhaust and fords track handling pack suspension.

Mods since then
  • 2018 ported intake
  • lund e85r tune will be using this on the track
  • 170 T stat and on 100% water with vp racing cool down additive.
  • 255/40/19 fronts and 285/3519 rear mps4s
So first question for the peace of mind, is it safe to run 100% water in the warmer months? Or should I be running %15 like some folks suggests? Or do I do what ford asks and have 50/50?

Water boils at 212 but with the s550 cool system running at 21 psi I think the boiling point would be around 260F. I should be okay since we have about 10 minutes between laps.

Next question is tire pressure, what should they be hot? Last time I was there with the all seasons I maintained 32 psi by letting air out but i saw as high as 36-38. Ill be driving there in the morning so I could check them when they are cold and add air.

I would stick to the recommended coolant solution and as far as the tires are concerned. start at 32PSI cold and bleed off if needed. A hot pressure of about 34/35 is ideal. I noticed the tires getting greasy about 37.

Water will be fine, but definitely use distilled water, else you will get corrosion.

I don’t see a need for adjusting away from the Ford coolant ratio.

Tire pressures - keep them at or under 37. 36 is probably more ideal. 38 is getting up there.

I was seeing temps of 252F on a recent track day. I don't think I'd be fooling around with anything but Ford's recommended coolant.

Pure water + water wetter provides the best cooling. Most race organizations actually outlaw glycol coolant because a leak makes the track very slippery.

That said, for a track day I wouldn't change a thing. Run the normal 50/50 mix, the cooling performance is in the same ballpark and I have yet to see a Track Day organization complain about anyone running conventional coolant.

I've run water all weekend before in the summer. Not by choice but it was all good in a pinch. Drained and switched back to 50/50 mix once I got home.
