Emissions. The ā€˜22 is subject to stricter emissions and ā€œneedsā€ the carbon filter in the intake.

RE: carbon filter

How that is supposed to help or do anything for emissions is beyond meā€¦. Itā€™s like what, protecting the Coyote from injesting competitive exhaust outputs? Is it to help the Coyote ā€œbreatheā€ where there are allergens? Are we protecting the Coyote from other airborne pollutants that somehow affect its air intake? Cleaner air in cleaner air out??? Who got the bonus for that bogus contraption?

I mean, cā€™mon now - itā€™s the most ridiculous component ever added to the Coyoteā€¦. I mean why not just add carbon filters plugged into the ends of the exhaust tipsā€¦. LMFAOā€¦. Ugh

Itā€™s not a filter for the engine itā€™s because fuel vapors can make their way back out of the intake when the engine is shut off. Itā€™s the same kind of methodology used on evap systems with a charcoal canister.

on one car itā€™s nothing, on a whole fleet across every car the manufacturer makes it adds up enough for it to be worth it for them.

Iā€™d rather they add it (carbon filter/emissions controls) than stop making the v8. At least you can still source an intake/TB and tune for the ā€˜22 & ā€˜23 aftermarket.

Wellā€¦. The charcoal canister still exists on the S550, itā€™s just not in the engine bay anymore or passenger side inner fenderā€¦ itā€™s under the spare tire well at the rear of the carā€¦

And if thereā€™s that much fuel/emissions fumes back tracking the air intake tract, through a closed throttle body blade, back out the nose of the car - then thereā€™s other issues that the engineers should have worked out.

its not something that can be designed out unfortunately. Theres alwasy vapors and fumes in the cylinder even on the intake stroke. If the engine stops on the intake stroke with the intake valves open the vapors inside the cylinder will travel back out through the throttle and into the environment.

Also on PI applications residual fuel in the intake track will evaporate and also find its way into the environment. On a Gen3 the car is 100% PI at idle so this is a very realistic scenario.

As far as the EPA is concerned its an emission, and across millions of V8 coyotes, its enough emissions that ford saw it as a viable method to reduce fleet emissions across the board.

The carbon filter does do something, but it does something at the fleet level not really at the individual level.

Also note that this is not the same emissions mode as the charcoal canister under the rear valence handles. That is only for vapors directly from the fuel tank, this controls vapors from the engine itself.

A drop in the ocean. Meanwhile China and India pump out emisions to the point that you can't wear a white shirt without it getting sooted up by the end of the day. But yeah, the "emissions" out of the intake tract are the issue in the world.

don't worry, the USA is leading the world in saving the planet. It's just that nobody promoting this realized that the air in china, like the rain in Spain doesn't STAY in it's locale. Weather is much too complicated for some people to comprehend.

I can attest to this. Before I was an 11B, I was an NBC specialist. Learned fallout predictions from weather charts in case of a nuclear detonation or other WMD. That's what made Chernobyl so scary.

This is also my problem with the "climate change" do-gooders in the West.

The combined 2024 populations of India, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, Nigeria, and Bangladesh is 4.01 BILLION people, or *half* of Earth's population. These are industrialized nations where emissions and other forms of pollution are not a priority. Good luck with your carbon traps and plastic-free life choices.

Another fun topic is the environmental sustainablility of lithium mining once we assume the entire world will use electric cars and trucks.

Or the do gooders know they are safe yelling and screaming about this stuff here, as for the places you listed do you think they would be listened to or done something else to?

Anyone know why this hasn't been approved by ford for a 22 GT? https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-9603-M8B
This CAI upgrade system also includes a tune and it stinks for us ā€˜22 GT owners because if we installed it then Ford can easily tell the ECM program has been altered. This could potentially void our Powertrain warranty. My next service for oil change I know the dealership will install a PCM program change due to a recall notice they mailed me regarding a low brake fluid warning program change, if any non OEM ā€œtuneā€ program history is found in my car then my Powertrain warranty could be voided at that point. Heck, even Roush donā€™t offer their CAI w tune part number w 3 yr/36k warranty isnā€™t offered for ā€˜22 GTs.
Because of this Iā€™ve narrowed my search to only ā€œno tune requiredā€ CAIā€™s that wonā€™t void Ford Powertrain warranty. Roush does offer one for ā€˜21 GT that works with OEM mass air flow meter (but does have an inner smaller diameter air tube which can be removed at any point to run the larger diameter tube that requires a different MAF meter and tune to pick up max hp increase). JLT has one also and both claim no codes will be tripped and 10-15 hp increase. Liking the Roush system better right now but having ability to tune later when my Ford warranty doesnā€™t matter to me any longer šŸ˜†

It wouldn't even install the software. Once it detects the VIN it would stop the install.
