I have a 2021 gt/cs I’m very gentle when entering but the leather section is coming apart like paper. The car has less than 8k miles and I usually only wear suits no keys or anything in the pockets. I drive the car less than 3 days week.
I know Ford not going cover it but I’m frustrated cause it seems to be coming apart from the inside.

Take it in. They should not be wearing like that. Hard to tell where exactly on the seat edge but if it's near one of the airbags I had an issue on my 2005 where the air bag was cutting through the seat and ford replaced.

That would bum me out. I always put my hands over the bolsters before I get in or out of the car. I went with Katzkins and they use better quality leather. Also, right there it isn't even leather its vinyl. Only where your ass hits the seat and your shirt hits the back is leather.

Curious...Maybe it's the optics of the photo, but is that area of the seat support different than the rest? The affected area looks to have a sheen while the rest of the seat does not. Is this right? Anything which might be acting on the materials?

Gt/CS cars have leather with suede on the middle

Rgr.

I highlighted what I found interesting. The same area or section, to the right of the line, shiny. To the left, not. Body/hand oils I guess. Probably how I'm interpreting the image.

And the airbags, yes. I didn't realize one was in that area/section.

I don't believe that is leather. The specs on the car info I have seen says "Leather Insert" which means the center parts are leather, not everything else. I'm always wrong so don't listen to me.

Now then, looks like you have something in your pocket tearing that up.

Makes no difference take it to the dealer and ask that it gets fixed (good luck with that, tho).

There's not one bit of real leather in any Mustang.

Legally, synthetic blends can be called "100% real leather", and it's marketed and sold that way. It's just a consumer perception and marketing thing.

Real leather basically lasts forever, but doesn't look the way people want it to look; tight, smooth, form-fitting, consistent in color and pattern. Real leather is dried skin, so every nick, scratch, cut, stretch-mark and skin condition the animal had is visible in real leather.

That's not what people want, so they get fake leather.

Very true! I used to work at a place that sold true, uncorrected leather on high end furniture. We constantly had to explain that the "defect" the consumer called out was from a barbwire scar or pit marks from ticks and that was part of the natural character. Most consumers found they really wanted corrected grain and split leathers with patterns pressed in to be uniform and visually appealing...

Just wanted to provide a quick update. I checked in with Ford today and there is a high change that they can fix this under warranty since the car is not even a year old yet. They want me to bring it in asap, fingers crossed the place they recommended can do the work under warranty and not give me a hard time.

On a side note they recommend to have the dealer do leather maintenance every six months. anyone else ever had to do this?

A leather cleaning and conditioning a few times a year isn’t a bad idea. Lots of good products out there that you can do on your own. I’m sure @DFB5.0 would have some good recommendations for you. All the big names, Adam’s, Griot’s, 303, Carpro, Gyeon, etc. have leather care products that are easy to use.

Watch out for the copper studs they put at the corners of jeans pockets. These are likely what did the damage. Move the seat back and avoid contacting the bolster when you get in/out. Glad they are going to fix it. My guess is they will have an upholstery shop remove and replace that section. You may end up with a better quality material.

Maintaining your leather is a good idea but lol @ paying some idiot kid at the dealer to smear armor all on my interior.

I just the same routine from my first mustang. I usually wash the car once or twice every two weeks and leather shampoo and conditioner the leather sections, but never experienced this before.
