I’m about ready to pull the trigger on a GT 350. My question is, is the difference between 2019 and 2020 models minimal?
I would obviously go with the 2020 model for value reasons, price isn’t much of a concern.
From what I understand the 2019 got an upgraded engine block later on in production. What production dates did that start?
This could all change if somebody were to give me a screaming deal on a 2019. What say you ol’ wise ones?

The only difference I know of is the front steering geometry which is now the same as the GT500. Not worth it to me as the 2019 handles way better than the average driver will ever be able to explore properly. The dealers can't give away the 2019's right now so I would go that route and get the smoking hot deal you are looking for.

Steering geometry was only changed on the 2020 R, not standard GT350. Unless my info is wrong.

So the engine block (GT500) upgrade was changed on all ‘19 productions?
Thought I read somewhere the change was late in the ‘19 production line

Debatable whether the GT500 block is really an 'upgrade' and more likely a shared parts convenience from production. The original GT350 block is 10 pounds lighter and was supporting boosted applications as it was. But yes the GT500 block started later. I don't know the exact date.

There are plenty of brand new 2018 GT350 cars out there. I only know because a co worker has been looking. He said he's been quoted low 50's range on several different NEW '18's and the best deal he's seen so far on a '19 was in the $57K range.

  • Are you buying a Base or an R?
  • Base: No difference between 2019 and 2020 (other than a few paint changes)
  • R: $5K price increase and some steering geometry changes
  • All 2019's got the upgraded engine block. I think a few very late 2018's got it also.
  • There are amazing deals on 2019's right now - lots of them considerably below invoice - the 2019's were delivered late and the 2020's rolled out early, it crushed the market on the 2019's
  • Here's one for $7623 below MSRP - https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/777873940/overview/

Lots of info circulating about the GT350 sharing the modified block with the GT500 once production on the GT500 began- this info is per Ford execs. I think I remember reading that some 2019 owners with higher production numbers have reported that they’re motors are coded as the new motor. It’s safe to say that all 2020s have the new blocks. I wouldn’t think that any 2018 has the new block... unless Ford was secretly producing GT500s a couple of years ago...

The 2020 R got an all new steering rack, steering knuckles and revised geometry to enhance steering feel and precision and significantly reduce tramlining on certain roads- both upgrades shared with the GT500.
