Do an early oli change to clear out all of the metal crud in the engine. I did my first at 220 miles and was shocked at the amount of metallic crud in the drain pan. I was so shocked that I did additional changes at 600 and 1000 miles with each having less crud in the drain pan. I am at 7K so far and no tics. The Motorcraft semi synthetic oil is fine with the FL500 filter. Be sure to pick up an extra plastic oil pan drain plug at the dealer before doing your own work if you go forward. Walmart has the 10 quart jugs for a good price along with the filters. Also make sure that if you DYI the change that you get a 10 qt drain pan as it comes out very fast!
I also installed Steeda jacking rails on my GT which I highly recommend for easy maintenance and brake / wheel work. You can replace the rear backup lamp bulb with a Diode Dynamics LED bulb for much brighter nighttime back up visibility. A five minute job and your rear camera will love this at night. I have installed black mud / splash guards on all for wheels due to the wide tires kicking up all of the stones up onto the body. If you do a lot of highway driving, some form of front end paint protection will be in order. I went cheap and use a Covercraft bra for long trips at about $150. Finally, I purchased one additional Mustang key fob so I have three total. Purchased online, under $100, and I programed it myself in the driveway in five minutes. I use it as a service key for dealer visits so they cannot lose one of the two originals.

Great suggestions.i stopped doing the oil myself years ago, just too much hassle
I'd been going to friends shop till last week. They weren't ready for how fast and how much oil comes out.i mean it went everywhere.oil was dripping on my floor for a week.brought it to my local nalley Ford service guy.it took them an hour to clean the undercarriage.he said they use a special fixture to grab the oil and direct it into a large container.and they didn't charge me a thing.i only change oil and filter once a year,so paying 100 bucks for full synthetic is worth it for me.

3 oil changes in the first 1000 miles is totally ridiculous. Lol.

First oil change 3-5k. I went full synthetic Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30.

Be careful and use discernment on internet advice...

I change my oil every 4-5k. I'd probably push it a little longer but I run ethanol all day everyday. Rolled 28k miles this weekend. Car runs strong. Factory filters and Motorcraft oil.

Thats borderline insane. Three oil changes in the first 1k miles?

Come on...

OP, I did my first one just shy of 5k and the cars fine. I beat the shit out of it driving it. Going in for the 10k miles oil change in the next month or two.

There were chunks of metal in the drain pan like I have never seen on any of my new cars. I even took pictures of these in case I had a engine failure down the road. Also, the factory oil filter is 1 inch shorter than the FL500 replacement for some reason. The second oil change had 50% less metallic grit in the pan so I was headed into the right direction. These plasma wire arc transfer motors must shed a lot of material during break in. To each his own, but no tics so far and it runs like a beast!

You dropped the oil pan when you changed the oil? My oil and filter was actually pretty clean for 2900 miles tuned on E85.

There are only a few oils that meets fords spec for the 2018+. I like the penzoil but it apparently has too much calcium to meet the LSPI spec that ford has for the 2018+.

I would not sweat PUP. Factory fill in in more exotic, more $$$, higher rpm stuff. I’m running full time E85 so it gets changed every 3-4k regardless. I was running my first 93P tune at 150 miles and full on balz to the wall wot at 200 miles. Now at 10k (9500 on E85) strong as ever with zero oil burn.

Use the owners manual schedule of service and you can’t go wrong. If you bought new you should have sone Ford points which you can use for 1st service or your dealer may have 1 or 2 for free. Oil change and rotation no more than $55 or $70 bucks.

If you do it yourself just take your time. Every 5 k should be good.

ā€˜Also rotate tires left to right each time you change.

On my 15 PP2 I got a square setup , used some spacers and bought 2 rear wheels so I could have a true square setup front and back.

You should be fine for the 1st 50K.

I agree it’s good oil but if you blow your engine don’t want to give ford a reason not to cover. I actually contacted several manufactures that did not recommend running their oil as it didn’t meet the spec ...

Why not tell OP the oil specs that Ford recomends for the 18+? Mine was changed at 15 miles to full synthic 5w50 BUT, that is also when the Roush Supercharger was added. The oil life monitor will take in consideration of how you drive your car and recommend earlier oil changes for some types of driving.
