Hello, I am new to the forum having purchased a 2019 Bullitt a few months ago. The car has been great overall with the exception of a rattle I can't seem to locate and losing courtesy mirrors lights, garage opener, trunk light and courtesy lights.. I pulled the fuse (#10 under the glove box) but it seemed to be fine, I replaced it anyway and that did not cure the issue. I learned to do without these lights and I use a mirror mounted garage opener that works fine.
Any suggestion would be appreciated but that's not the biggest issue.

I am experiencing issues engaging in first and second gears.. When I engage first gear, I get reverse with a big "R" in the dash display - without lifting the aluminum Lock out pull ring- I tried engaging second gear and get the same results. I also noticed that if I turn the gear shift a bit left or right I am able to engage 1st and 2nd gears but it doesn't last long and soon enough I am faced with the same issue. Once i have selected 1st gear and 2nd gear, the transmission shifts fine up to 6 gear but it is nerve racking to stop, not knowing how long it will take me to get going again. Is it normal for the gear shift -not the knob- but the whole assemble to be able to rotate? Could it be a linkage issue? Has anyone experienced this issue and how were you able to fix it?
I am calling my Ford dealer hoping it will be covered under the powertrain warranty...

I am 71 years old and have been driving stick since I learned driving in the 60's and never experienced something like this....

Thank you for any insight you may be able to provide.

Jacques

a few things could be going on. First do you know if an after market shifter was installed before you bought it? Some of them have adjustments for the reverse lockout. Maybe the previous owner put the stock shifter back in it and did not install correctly? Maybe linkage came lose? If you don't work on your own stuff take it to a shop.

Based on the overall condition of the vehicle it does not appear that any modifications were made. The shifter looks stock to me. I will contact Ford and see what they think. Thanks for the reply.

When an electrical system loses power to seemingly unconnected devices it can often be a bad ground that they share.

As for the shifter, there is no connection from the shifter itself to the ECM. The transmission reports the selected gear from a black box on the left side of the transmission. There is a recall regarding the firmware linked with the gear reporting system, that should be checked first.

The connection from the shifter to the transmission could be loose or have some other problem. It is a single rod that rotates and moves fore/aft, with the shifter located remotely from the transmission.

How does the brake/clutch fluid look in the reservoir? It may just need to be flushed and bled down. I’d try that before taking it in to the dealer.

I just bled the brakes/clutch on my 2019 Bullitt a few days ago using the gravity bleed method. Just hook up a brake bleeder bottle to each bleeder fitting on the calipers one at a time, in this order:

- Right rear
- Left rear
- Right front
- Left front

Note: Use DOT 4 fluid and keep the reservoir topped off. If you let it get too low, you will introduce air into the system and need to take it in to the dealer.

One other thing that comes to mind regarding the shifter moving around. Check the shifter support bracket nuts. They could be loose, allowing the shifter to move around. See pic with red arrows pointing to the two nuts I’m referring to.

Excellent point! I will have it check it out, as I don't think I can crawl under the car anymore....

@2019 Dark Highland Green can you look underneath the hood in the area of the brake booster and see if you can locate a stainless steel braided clutch line? If there is one, that means the previous owner installed that as an aftermarket part, as the factory clutch line is plastic. That would also be a reason to ensure that the clutch was properly bled down after that install.

See green arrow pointing to the top stainless steel braided clutch line and green circle around the end of said clutch line that connects to the master cylinder.

You’re welcome. If possible, can you ask the dealer to take pics of the broken shifter and then post it here for us to see? Thank you.
I will request the part back since it is not covered under the powertrain warranty naturally and will post photos...

Unless the mustang bleeding procedure is special it would be:
right rear left rear
right front left front. Furthest away from the master to the closest.

You’re absolutely right, always bleed the caliper farthest away from the master cylinder and finish up with the caliper closest to it. Good catch. I’ll edit that right now.
