2019 GT Premium PP2 B&O system.

I wouldn't go so far to say I'm an audiophile but I am just going to say this is the most anemic "high end" factory system I have every experienced. I commute 100 miles a day and I want some good sound out of my system.....I thought finding the B&O would be a good system and I wouldn't have to mess around with upgrading the system....well I didn't buy this car because of the B&O but I am needless to say underwhelmed.

Yes I have already upgraded the factory sub. I can't even hear the damn subwoofer....I honestly opened the trunk to see if it was even playing.

So....yes I understand the actual source is crap, so I am just going to bite the bullit and start with upgrading the head unit.....but I want it to look and function as stock.

Damn aftermarket head units are changed nearly every 6 months. I tend to favor Kenwood and Alpine.

What are you guys using for a good factory head unit replacement (yes I will purchase all of the integration modules to keep everything as factory useful as possible). Eventually I will go down the rabbithole of upgrading speakers and building a box for the trun,. For now I feel upgrading the headunit will make things sound a bit louder and better.

Now if I am completely wrong please speak up. I am new to B&O system but I have been reading and yes I have turned off the center channel and yes I am using plugged in Google Pixel 9 for android audio and I have everything turned up on the phone....so I have went down that road.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Keep the factory head unit, add an AmpPro FD21 amp interface, Toslink add-on and run a fiber optic cable to a DSP and the DSP to an amp, change the door speakers to Hertz DSK 165s, and replace the tweeters in the A-pillars, install a sub amp, upgrade the sub and call it good. There was someone on here selling a new JL Audio Stealthbox and AmpPro for a very good price.

Sadly, the BO system in the mustang is better that the BO system that came in the superdutys until '23. My mustangs blows away the BO system in my '22 Lariat SD.

Second recommendation I've seen today for AmpPro FD21. Any reason not to go with FD31?

I wasn’t aware that they offer an FD31. I did my install a little over 5 years ago.

I guess I am wondering....I keep reading on this site on older threads that the signal coming from the head unit is trash. Is this not the case???

Also I have these laying around that I can use:

My signal is clean. No issues or unwanted feedback/hissing etc. I used a single fiber optic cable instead of multiple pairs of RCA cables.

I think you are over thinking it. Yes the B&O is lacking, but with smart choices you can make it a lot better without spending tons of money and hours of labor. I changed out the sub with DD Audio's RLSW10A. To me it made a huge difference. I Dynamated the box. This driver is more efficient than the stock POS, so it plays louder, deeper and with more punch with the stock amp. I didn't like the Pioneer speaker that others chose. To me it lacked the DB rating. Next upgrade the A-pillar tweeters. I used Dayton's AMTPOD-4 from Parts express and cross them over at 4500hz. And finally upgrade the midrange in the doors. I used Sky-High Audio's SH-35 crossed over at 850hz. Also Dynamat the doors. Needless to say the mids and highs are bright and clear. Bass is deep and thumps. Is it a competition system, no. Does it sound way, way better than stock, yes. Does it play loud, loud enough to cause pain, so yes. I'd do this first before swapping head units and adding amps and DSPs, you might find that it's good and no need to go further.

I have never run an optical cable in car audio as I have not had the option....but I like that option for this application. I will have to purchase one.

@greasy I do need that APA-TOS1, but I will just buy elsewhere as I am sure you are not looking to just sell the adapter.
