If all you can get is E70, is it okay to run an e85 tune? Or should you only run the flex fuel tune? What would the consequences be of running e70?
You should be ok. Rob tuned my car for E85 and told me to make sure I had at least E70 and it would compensate by pulling a couple degrees of timing off max

Where are you guys shifting on the Flex/E85R tunes? (Manual guys, of course)

When racing I am shifting at 7200. With just normal driving, usually around 2500-3000.

I would think revving it higher would be beneficial especially on the manuals since they drop farther down in RPM's on the shifts than the 10 speeds. My 10r80 automatically shifts at like 7800, I usually paddle shift around 7400 though. If I had a 6 speed I would be revving it to 7700+ probably

Mine redlines at 7850rpm. On the flex tune I take it pretty close to there if I'm on the gas. When I'm on the straight e tune I usually shift a little earlier because it has more down low power.

With PBD tune mine redlines at 8200 I think, atleast thats what the torque app read when I hit the limiter once. Its pointless to go that high though but I almost never hit a limiter unless I accidently leave it in paddle mode when I think its in automatic mode.

When I paddle shift I usually shift when I feel the power start going down significantly around like 7400 so I can ride it back up atleast for a while. Thats what feels best but I dont know if thats whats fastest. I think my tune revs it above peak power when its not in paddle mode and then it falls into peak power on the shift and starts falling off in power again which doesnt feel as good to me but it may be faster. Would just have to get the car dynoed then do some math to figure out the optimal shift RPM in each gear, or you can go by feel .

Rob has mine tuned to shift@7800. Limiter is @8200. It pulls all the way there

My tune is Lund. I'm sure they set the limiter there to prevent over revving. It allows me to get all the way to 7500rpm with out bouncing the limiter. If your not sure which is faster for you try playing around with the built in timers and use different shift points to see what you come up with for times. Yours being an auto should make it easier to get consistent runs in for testing purposes.

Peak power NA is almost always around 7000 even on e85 . Its usually not above that without a SC or some type of special cam setup.

You can see a pretty typical e85 18 dyno graph in this video, it starts dropping after 7k

If I shift from 4-5 at ~7400 RPM , 5th gear is then at ~6500 rpm. I think a lower shift RPM than 7800 may be beneficial for the autos but PBD does have some excellent times with these 7800 rpm shifts. It does shift into peak power then power starts dropping off though. I like the ride up in power in terms of feel it doesnt feel good to make less hp while increasing revs.

I could try some 1/4 miles paddle shifting I suppose but that may lack consistency. But if I could even get 1 run better than my best auto run it would be kind of conclusive that optimal shift RPMS are lower than 7800.

I’m making 15psi, so makes sense. Strange how Ford has them setup to shift@7500 stock if they’re not making power that far

Andy you’re probably right. Last year NA, I had 2 E85 tunes. 1 VMP that shifted@7800 11.60@122 and AED shifting @7500 11.38@124 back to back passes
AED ftw I'd say...lol
