Hi all,

Does anyone have this rear window tint issue? I noticed the cars behind me have stack light lines reflection, probably caused by the defroster lines.
But I didn't have this before my tint film was applied.

Need some help and suggestions.

Thanks!

I have the same issue. Although my rear window tint needs replacing as its a bubble storm from what I assume is the previous shops installation.

Over my three decades of having window tints installed, it has been a normal occurrence that there has been minor distortion along the defroster strips. However, it generally has become more pronounced over the years for some of the tints. I don't know if it is/was related to the quality of the film material/adhesive used, but as time went on, it was to the point I pondered, should I have it removed/replaced, or accept the rows of waves.

When the last owner turned on the heat defrost it tore up the tint. The lines heat up to melt the snow or frost. This causes bubbles in the tint from the heat. If the rear tint gets removed it will damage the heater grids.

Maybe theyll screw it up if they're a shitty shop but my shop has redone mine twice already the defrosters are intact. It takes a long time to remove tint. My local shop schedules it for all day. When I asked how long it takes to install the new tint they were like eh maybe 10-15 minutes but it takes the rest of the time to remove.

curious, why did you have your tint redone twice? what brand of tint have all these times been with?

Im not sure how often the previous owner actually used the rear defrost as it was a florida car. I have a feeling the shop that did it didn't take the time to properly clean the windows. The drivers side and passenger side have some tiny bubbles showing where you can see small specs of what I think might be dirt or debris.

Regardless I plan on getting it replaced this summer.

I've never had issues with using rear defrost on tinted windows ever. I've also had tint removed twice by a shop(bought cars with light tint) and they didn't harm the rear defroster either.

3m Ceramic. I live in south Florida and I've had the car 10 years and the tint has a lifetime warranty from bubbles. It took 4 years for bubbles the first time, 2 years the second. Only on the rear window the sides have been solid.

I had the windshield dark which is mostly good IMO but then it broke and the new windshield already has big chips so I'm just going to wait to do it again after this windshield cracks.

I had a Sn95 mustang for 20 years. I loved it more than I loved my dog. I have an s550 mustang now. The only tint problem I had was my rear window bubbling up after a few years. I had it scrapped and replaced. The defroster quit working and that's what I was told. Thanks for the correction. False news is like a virus. I'll try to have knowledge next time and share accuracy.

My wife's Fusion had poorly tinted windows when we bought it. The back glass was particularly bad over the defrost lines. We had it redone about 4 years ago now. The tinted is still perfect and the defroster works as it should.
I'd guess that it is possible that if the tint is removed less than carefully the defroster grid could become damaged but to completely stop working would mean that the main connecting point was damaged. I've had cars where a line or two didn't work but most of the defroster did. So I think it's possible that the shop that told you that was making excuses for mistakes they made.
