2018 Mustang GT LCD Panel Issues - Warning

I have owned 3 cars and our company has had one with LCD/Digital cluster panel . All of them failed at least once, one I had to go thru the Cal. lemon law, I had the car for 9 months and never even installed the plates. As long as I can I will stay away from them. Sorry that is my 2 cents.

Ummm your logic is flawed what makes you think that if the cluster went out a HUD system that reads the same information wouldn't as well? Mustang will never get HUD imo

This is my fear, especially if it happens during driving! Ford really needs to implement a HUD for the Mustang ASAP, IMO - as this way, if that gauge goes out, you'll at least still be able to safely drive with being able to see your current speed and other pertinent information via the HUD.

I would be concerned about these types of failures after the warranty period is over. paying for this type of thing out of pocket wont be fun. that's one of the reasons i dumped my Scat Pack. it was showing odd glitches at 500 miles and i didn't want to be faced with that on my own dime

I love the "On back Order", how can something this new be on back order?

Probably because they are using all the parts for production and the spares inventory has not been filled up yet. I would kind of assume this is normally the case for any unique brand new component.

I feel Ford Should definitely fix this for you and get inventory from the factory line, brand new car shouldn’t be out of commission for so long. They probably won’t and I feel for you. Best of luck.

I personally never liked the new cluster. This is just another reason to me to get one before they all have them. Maybe I should get two, just in case, you know.

Those displays are cool and all but i for see trouble in the future. Ford is doing all this cool electrical stuff like BMW, I can see many electrical problems in the future.

Great point ! Wait till these babies are 10 years old or older. The electrical repairs/replacements and labor will cost more that the used car. But that thankfully will not be my problem.

Digital LCD isn’t new technology at all though, while fords implementation is cool with unique driving modes, the tech behind it very mundane and simple. The only thing is this is fords first attempt at it and without tech sharing, the 2018 guys will be the beta testers since a test fleet can’t account for every variable. Though, they can just overbuild it but that’ll cost excess spending.

Seriously though, guess you've never had the privilege of driving a "vintage" vehicle that had inoperable, or inaccurate gauges. It ain't no biggie.

Sympathies to the OP though. If this was my car I'd be PO'd!

You can’t just buy the cluster though and have it shipped to your door like that. You have to go to the dealer and order the cluster and some place in PA has to program the mileage and such. No dealer can change an ODO or anything like that. Ford may have a bunch of clusters made up and ready to go for the new cars but the place that programs clusters and such may not have any or not enough to cover replacements. I assume there are not many failures but enough to cause a back order.

Bought my 2018 Mustang GT in early December and the LCD Panel went out completely the first week in February. Was told part on back order in February and that ETA for part to come in was early April. In the mean time the Ford dealership that I took my vehicle to gave me a Ford Edge loaner - go figure! Have escalated this issue to the Ford Exec offices and have yet to get a response from them. Just wanted to post this so all are aware that this possibly could happen to you. Needless to say, I'm not too happy about this!

Do you mean you have contacted the Ford 800 # and did get a Regional CSR involved and you have an assigned Case # - or did you try to make contact to Ford via other means (another # or email)?

If you called the 800 #, you should have made instant contact with a Ford CSR and have a Case # by now. If that is true and you’re not getting results from your CSR, you can either call that CSR back and demand to speak to their Supervisor OR you can call the 800 # again and tell that person you want the Supervisor for that CSR.

If you don’t have a Case #, then nothing is going to happen anytime soon, as that is key into getting your issue elevated not only within Ford but also at the Dealership.

To those telling this member “oh just drive it” and “it’s not a big deal” - how about flipping the tables and if it were YOU in his position who just bought a brand new car and X-issue happened where now the car is at the shop? To put it into better perspective, you’re not only out of your brand new vehicle that you’ve waited to own/drive/enjoy - BUT you are also in some POS loaner, your new vehicle is at a location where it could be damaged (dinged/dented/scratched) because no one gives a shit about it AND you’re making payments on that new car that you’re NOT driving...

I also can’t believe that if this situation happened to one of you, that you would not be on this site or any other, pissed/posting about how your brand new car is down due to some defective part and it’s taking excessive amount of time to fix.

It’s a BIG DEAL to the person having to go through all the BS repair hurdles after buying a brand new car.

The OP’s State Lemon Law is surely an option, so is BBB Autoline and so is telling the CSR Supervisor that he wants to go through the Ford Buy Back process, but none of those options are an instant fix - because it also takes time to go through any of those procedures as well.
