My exact noise. My 15 f150 4x4 was similar but made a rotational noise if the wheels spun with traction control on. Werid as it sounds the noise was amplified x10 if you kept light throttle during those conditions. Hard to explain. I just wish they would hurry up with my rav program on my 18. Have two cars out of 600 mile radius I'm looking at.
Hope you get it soon too!!

Ford approved a new short block for mine. 14 days in the shop and will probably hit 30 so I may be looking at buyback/replacement.

Here is the most plausible explanation for the noise I was having.

OASIS 2888-

Some 2016 GT350 Mustangs might exhibit Piston Rattle from Idle to 3000 RPM

Some 2016 Mustang GT350 equipped with the 5.2L engine may exhibit a rattle or rapping type sound during cold operation at light loads and speeds from idle-3000 rpm. The noise will be most noticeable during light acceleration in the 1500-3000 RPM range and may also be noticeable in the 800-1200 RPM range with neutral throttle blips. This sound is caused by the piston motion in the cylinder bore. This is an inherent characteristic of the forged aluminum pistons utilized in this high performance engine. Once the engine reaches operating temperature the noise will diminish, although it may still be noticeable even when fully warm. There are no durability concerns with this sound.

Short block? Practically a new car and they want to send a short block to the dealer and scavenge usable parts off the old motor and have a mechanic piece it together? Seems like an invitation to have more problems and have the car hit the magic 30 day replacement figure.

I opened up a case with Ford customer service. This will definitely hit the 30 day mark.

Same thing happened with my 2017. 4900 miles, and they replaced the short block and ONE cyl head. Pieced the rest of it back together with old parts. Once I found that out, I filed with ford to buy the car back. Hoping to have the new car today.

Hi all. I’ve cruised the forum for odds and ends type info but never posted before.

With that out of the way, my 2017 GT Premium has had one heck of a journey due to this random ticking (clicking?) noise. I first got the car new off the lot a few days after the start of the year with 212 miles on it. It was cold so I of course drove it with the windows up. At the 3000 mile mark (after following the manufacturers recommended break in period of 1000 miles of light spirited driving) I noticed a ticking sound in the 1500-2000 rpm range. Checked engine bay for loose things around the belt drive and had a friend rev the engine so I could locate the noise. Seemed to be from the driver side rear of the engine. Took it to the dealer and had a fantastic rep inspect the noise and agree it’s an issue. At first they were looking at the pressure plate being the culprit. After a week at the dealer, they ended up with the actual issue being an improperly clearanced crank that had too much clearance on the main bearings. Ford sent them a new short block and they reused the heads, timing components, etc from the old engine. I got the car back and after a few hundred miles, noticed the same noise but this time in the 1800-2300 rpm range. Took it back to the dealer and talked to the same rep (really cool guy. Helped a ton beforehand and that day) and let him listen to the noise. After talking with him, I’m going to change the oil to Amsoil to see if the sound changes. If it doesn’t, the rep is going to contact ford about the problem recurring and hopefully not end up having the car for a little over a month like they did last time. Video attached is prior to the new short block, but it is the same sound.

Dumbfounded, truly. Anyone have any insight?

Am I dealing with the same thing? 2018 PP1, 4100 miles. Been making this sound for awhile and I thought maybe it was just the intake into the cabin.

Sounds like a double knock which would indicate a rod bearing or wrist pin problem, what does the oil pressure show at idle when at operating temp.

Sounds exactly like mine! What RPM's is it apparent at? Mine makes the noise anywhere from 1200-2800. 6MT or auto? Seems to be worst at light acceleration vs. aggressive. This is definitely a more widespread problem then i thought. Maybe these Gen 3 engines are just chatty by nature? Maybe DI noise? My 17' ST sounded like a damn diesel, but supposedly that was the nature of that engine. Anyone with insights on this sh*t? Im getting super aggravated about this, and want to avoid dealer unless need be.

Mine makes a noise similar to a diesel clatter around 1200 rpm. I was pulling the car up onto a 4 post lift and I could hear it echoing off the walls in my garage. I am going to attribute it to DI noise at this point. It does not sound at all like the barbecue tick or the noise Red65's car is making. The high pressure pump and injectors must add some noise.

It's a 6 speed, and yes during light acceleration. I just want the car fixed, or go through the lemon process  .

Oil pressure is normal under any condition. Nothing that should cause any alarm. It’s just hard for me to think that I got 2 affected shortblocks in a row.

What I have found out is going up a slight hill with just enough throttle to keep the rpm at 2000, there’s no sound. Coasting down a hill with no throttle keeping it at 2000, no sound. It literally only happens with very slight throttle on flat ground and going down hills. Any actual load on the engine kills the noise.
