I don't know what FORD did to the 2018's but my lord, they are stout.

There's a comprehensive list of changes made to the 2018 Gen III Coyote, pretty self explanatory

But I agree, it's a damn good engine (and hopefully as reliable as the previous ones).

2018 has a problem with making power on other fuel than E85...
It seems more like nobody is bothering to tune on anything other than E85 for these glamour-shot cars because they need the big numbers to sell parts.

I don't even bother looking at E85 numbers most of the time, I simply can't care when there is a single E85 station in the entire state. Its never going to happen for me, so I sure would love to see some 91-93 tuning on the new cars.

But I'll admit that is very good power for basically bolt-ons and a tune. Ford made a good motor with this 3rd gen, can't wait to see where it goes from here.

In the same boat about E85. No stations close and I doubt there ever will be. Plus I take my car on trips and I'm not basing my route on the few and far between e85 stations.

E85 helps keep heat down and, in addition to it's higher octane, you can run more timing. Couple that with the 2018's dual injection design and, within the limits of the fuel pump and the amount of air you can get in, you can spray tons of fuel into the cylinder.

It makes a great deal of sense that the 2018+ Coyote likes E85.

I'd run it myself if I didn't absolutely hate the inconvenience.

Id love to see a manifold option that doesnt sacrifice power one place for another.

It has a bit higher comp ratio so making decent numbers with 93 might be difficult or even impossible. I really don't care about e85 either as my car is a DD and it runs on 93. Making numbers on e85 is some sort of cheating in my book...sure it's fun for some short period of time but lets face it - most of us would like to see some solid 93 numbers.

I assume this is due to the compression ratio and the fact that Ford has it pretty close to max from the factory. At least from a 93 Octane perspective.

What I don't understand is them saying the factory manifold ran out of steam at 6500rpm. The 15-17 runs out at 6500-7k and people have been switching to the 18 and seeing it pull up to 7500+. How did their 2018 with a 2018 manifold run out at 6500?

To those wishing for E85 power numbers without E85 available in their area, look at methanol injection. Not as good as E85 but halfway there, significant improvement over plain 93. You can still run on 91/93 and just fill a small methanol tank once in awhile.

I went this route and went from 15-17* @ 12psi to 20-21* @ 15psi.
