I can remember graduating high school and dreaming of owning a Yellow SN95 Cobra (I did actually get a Mystic some years later) and to think what the S550 Mustang is like now compared to those is just mind boggling.

Technology does change rapidly nowadays. However, comparing all generations of Mustang from the 60's to present, when you look at the S550 and what changes/improvements it made and then compare it to all the previous generations and the improvements they made at it's price point, I think the S550 is the hands down winner.

No clue what Ford is cooking up for 2020 but it'd have to have wings to make as big a leap as the S550 did!

What made me get the 17 vs the 18 was that front fascia and the instrument cluster. I dont think I could have lived with either.... My .02cents

2017 S550 Design

Technology does change rapidly nowadays. However, comparing all generations of Mustang from the 60's to present, when you look at the S550 and what changes/improvements it made and then compare it to all the previous generations and the improvements they made at it's price point, I think the S550 is the hands down winner.

No clue what Ford is cooking up for 2020 but it'd have to have wings to make as big a leap as the S550 did!

The more I look at the 2018 Front Fascia the more I think what a mistake Ford made. They could of given us led lighting and a different hood and I would have been fine. Along with the other changes it would have been a home run. I also have to think with how complex this new engine is the maintainance costs will be thru the roof. With an additional $1000.00 - $1500.00 or more over the 2017's MSRP the 2018 will be a no go in my opinion. Unless there is a big surprise by Ford in terms of engine specs I can't see a big reason to purchase the 2018, other than better mpg and technology. I never purchased a Mustang in the past to get better mpg or tech - just want to go fast ;)

A great deal on a discounted 2017 with a few mods will accomplish that goal. And still look sexy as hell.

Only thing I'll add is that the GT can transport my entire family (son is going to be 6 in April) whereas a lot of other "fast" options in the same price range won't. And if the situation presented itself, I could fold down one of the seats and my GSD Frank could ride along as well.

I'm hoping for 0% for 60 or 72 months, current owner loyalty/private cash/first responder bonus...and then maybe a $1000-$2000 incentive on top of it. Might seem like a lot but really it's just the 0%APR that I'm currently not seeing.

Ford has yet to release the specs on the new coyote engine. All the new tech is great and all but most of those things are wants not needs. The other stuff like the exhaust and rear bumper I can add on a 2017. Interior pieces don't make you go any faster - I can purchase them later and add those pieces to my 2017 interior. The led lights would have been nice, but heck I could live without it.
10-speed auto - we still don't know how go it will be - time will tell. Yeah not crazy about what they did with the taillights. My view - if its not broke then don't fix it ! :tsk:

I think the word "superior" may be a bit of an overstatement..that's like saying the '15-17's are "inferior".

Not calling TheReaper out, but on other MY'18 threads, I'm seeing a bit of nuanced '15-17 bashing by others who don't even own one..maybe trying to justify their future '18 purchase? I dunno?..Yes, the 18 is going to be good, probably great, but that shouldn't take away from the fact that the last 3 years models are f'ing awesome as well. Also, while the '18 owners are sitting on the sidelines waiting for the go fast mods development to catch up, the 15-17 owners will just keep doing what they're doing..Hell, if I were in the market I'd probably wait until the '19 comes out, let Ford work out the kinks on the upcoming model, and see what the mod world brings to the table..Or, wait until later this year and get a great deal on a '17 and drop some cash savings into those already proven go fast mods...just my opinion.

I definitely agree with you on the S550 being a clear home run for Ford. I was never a big fan of the 05-10, to me it was a drop off from the 4v 4.6. The 11-14 was an improvement but still too retroish in style both inside and out plus the solid rear axle. The 15 addressed all of my concerns then the 17 added CarPlay which basically sealed the deal.

As for the 18, I am not sold on the front end just yet. I don't think it looks hideous like some, but I don't necessarily see it as an improvement either. The PI/DI engine is promising, but with DI comes added concerns with FI/E85 and long term reliability and costs. I'm not an auto guy so 10spd is meh to me.

I am hoping to get a GT Premium w/PP for around 33k with 0-1.9% financing. Just don't see the 18 being anywhere close to that price.

My thoughts pretty much exactly. Pretty sure I want to go TT.
If I got a used 16 or new 17 (right now they seem to be same,
but I really love the deep impact).

I would wait 2 years until warantee is up.
Don't like the TT kits with turbos underneath and I don't
see any choice with 18 hood being so much lower.
Also not confident 10 speed will take 7-800 HP doing
nothing to it. Probably will, but don't know for sure yet.

Only reason I could see to get 18 is PP available with auto,
but suspension is fixable to whatever specs the 18 PP
comes out with I'd guess (except chassis stiffness, which
will probably also improve).

Here I come, already got one in my sights and I think I may pull the trigger.
I know a lot of folks are here waiting on the 2018 specs and pricing but I don't know if I can't wait that much more. Besides not a fan of the front fascia, the 2018's will come at a premium price, and new engine, new tranny makes me think about all the tsb's that will be stacking up a few months down the road.
2017's will be discounted - heck we already have a 2k rebate in my area.
Money left over for mods ! :cheers:

Besides not a fan of the front fascia, the 2018's will come at a premium price, and new engine, new tranny makes me think about all the tab's that will be stacking up a few months down the road.

This exactly what i ended up doing, 8k of MSRP was too much to pass up and at the end of the day I am not really a big fan of the redesign, will i miss the active exhaust, mag ride and digital display? For sure, but i expect forced induction mods and tunes to be much more difficult for quite some time and I like buying at the end of a run where there aren't any serious changes versus the intro of some new tech.

Anyways with the discounts and what i got on trade in i was able to get a brand new 2017 just the way i want it and still had cash over to get a whipple with all of the goodies to throw on top, a 2018 model with the same options would have probably been another 2k msrp who knows how long i would have had to wait for a deal.

Actually after seeing alot of the responses on the redesign and how popular the previous design was (and now after 2 weeks of ownership i can see why) the new 2018's might actually have some poor sales like the new camaros and have heavy discounts within 6 months.

Who knows, I just know I am happy with what i spent and worst case i might be out 2-4k if i really want to upgrade but there better be some serious deals on the table and alot of concerns addressed about the front end and tail lights along with aftermarket performance options with the new DI/MR setup.

Meh LOL I'm cheap and like projects.. i'd just buy a 15... Download the update dash and store on A USB drive... Buying the bumpers and probably the most expensive parts of all that will honestly be the Lights.

I don't mind the new ones.. but I like being seen as the underdog so when the mods start... it's game over.
