Great possibility the Cobra Jet Program is merged with the Predator/GT500. In other words, the GT500 will be replacing the Cobra Jet. Mostly for marketing purposes BUT, it will be a Test bed for future tech.

A GT500 could also be headed to IMSA/SCCA as well...

They want Titles and Street cred of both Strip, Series and Street for the GT500.

In other words...

I do not want to see a TTV6 in a Mustang , but there are some who want a TTV6 in a Mustang. For those who want a TTV6 , I say buy a TTV6 Flex. The Flex is one badazz looking vehicle. So why wait for a TTV6 Mustang when you can buy a TTV6 Flex.

I wouldn't mind a twin turbo v6 in the mustang, just not as the GT500. Moving to a turbo-4, TT V6, V8 GT lineup would be a good balance between enthusiasts, ecoboost marketing and cafe standards.

Sounds like a special version of the A10 is GT500 bound. thePill initially lobbied against the A10 altogether, however, it was paper raced and thePill now agrees. You cannot optimize the Predator engine for the 1/4 mile unless you use paddle shifts.

800hp, some sort of "Hot V" BiTurbo or Sequential making the power and becoming part of the Ecoboost family.

The Truck/SUV version of the EBV8 (Ecobeast) is slightly different. No AWD mentioned for any V8 Mustang. $66,995 still the target? thePill hopes so.

The GT350's Voodoo is being replaced by the "Hummingbird". The GT350 Motorsport Program has been profitable. I cannot believe how many Motorsport, X-Road GT350's I've seen sold to teams. If GT4 gets fired up, I'd expect a 550hp/450tq version is inbound.

The GT500 moves to claim the Horsepower title! Dodge is the threat, not the Zl1.

Sorry Pill, but Hummingbird is the code name for GT350 itself, and has been since the program started.

Whatever the next Voodoo is called. Don't be surprised if a Port/Direct Injected Voodoo engine is Codenamed: Hummingbird as well.

Part of me believes direct injection had always been the intention until they got a Voodoo to pass emissions. It probably took some Black Magic to get it to pass without.

The Voodoo GT350 will expire and a new one will take its place. I believe the Voodoo was the PDI test bed. NOT the Coyote.

Very small chance that the GT500 will be replaced by the Cobra Jet.
This would give the CJ program a street counterpart while distancing it's self from the GT350.

I desperately wanted to see a Cobra Jet or EU-01 parallel system too BUT, here's another kicker...

At this time, there currently IS NO manual OR automatic transmission that can withstand over 700tq (650 in a TR6060). This is where the intake tuning and BiTurbo system will help. Keep in mind, they could retain a Twin setup (unlikely) but choose a single inlet intake (like a straight 6 Twin setup). But again, heat, package... all an issue.

From what I understand, tuning this "Predator" engine (not Fatboy thank god) to 800hp required a reduction in torque.

I believe it will be a BiTurbo (small>large spool) feeding a single inlet on a cross plane, PTWA Coyote "Predator".

808hp, 650-670tq maybe 5.4 liters for GT500 nostalgia.
But there is an AT that can and already does handle that torque level - the Ford 10R140 is capable of 1,00lb-ft.

And Ford will introduce DI on the base Coyote for both the F-150 and the Mustang probably 2017CY (as a 2018MY). Boosting will probably require a dual-injection system.

In addition, using the Mercedes 5.5L TTV8 is probably not relevant. Mercedes and Audi are downsizing to a 4.0L DI 2-TCI V8 with power ratings exceeding 650hp. The Mercedes 4.6L & 5.5L TTV8's are being phased-out.

I've checked our parts department recently and a replacement M157 engine(5.5TT) is well over $60,000 retail.

Good point.

The AMG 5.5 is a Parallel BiTurbo and is pretty much the same set up as the Cobra Jet Twin Turbo. The turbos are mounted down and forward. AMG is now replacing the 5.5 with a 4.0 Hot V BiTurbo.

That was a major talking point a while ago. Many people didn't understand the difference in a Parallel Twin/Bi Turbo and a Sequential or BiTurbo that is mounted on top. A Parallel set up we traditionally have seen will not work like many suggested.

The design will have a lot in common with the smaller AMG Hot V BiTurbo. It was my mistake assuming the two AMG's were the same design. They are not...

There absolutely is a 10 speed automatic that is capable of 800+ maximum torque capacity. thePill is trying to locate a PDF or info on said transmission but hearsay is all that's available.

I personally didn't want an automatic in the GT500 at all. However, once it was explained to me, I have to agree... Ford is developing an A10 that can handle 800+ torque and it will be a GT500 exclusive. There is a very good chance that there is a GT500 and GT500KR with different horsepower ratings like 2009. The GT500 had 500hp and the GT500KR had 540...

GT500: Uses a single Hot V Twin Scroll making 700-750hp, 670tq. I would like to see the GT500 use a 7 speed manual like the C7 and an milder version of the A10 like the ZL1 uses.

GT500KR: Hot V BiTurbo/Twin (Ecoboost), 808hp, 800tq, Special A10 ONLY.
