2016 SVT Automatic?

If your talking about a Porsche level of Automatic like the one in the Turbo Panamera I test drove, sure, but not the standard 6 speed. norfolkanway man.

Yes, a DCT style transmission with paddle shifters, was what I hoped for as an automatic option.

My feeling is no never DCT. However the 10spd auto from the new Raptor will eventually filter down to Stang.

The only thing I'm aware of that Ford has announced regarding a DCT in one of their products is a 7 speed Getrag in the 2017 Ford GT. Hopefully it will make its way into some other models, but I doubt we'll see that until after the GT is released.

This GT350 was meant to be a manual transmission-only, as it should be. Automatics are better suited for different models.

I have nothing against manuals, but I think a good DCT could be phenomenal in this car. I'd definitely consider checking that box.

I'm a little surprised by how many people here would like an auto... I thought a board like this would have a higher percentage of purists who would only even really consider a manual. Not that I think it's necessarily a problem, just strange.

Personally, I drove an auto since I learned how to drive 14 years ago. Then I took my last car to the track, and I kinda got why sports car lovers aren't a big fan of autos. It was just a little too "easy" to drive. I mean the whole point of a sports car is to be... sporty.

Yeah, technology has come a long way, and a modern auto/DCT is going to be faster around a track than a stick, but so would a robot that was programmed to follow the perfect line with the perfect throttle and pedal inputs while you just sat along for the ride. Where would the fun or sense of satisfaction be in that?

Wow, that is almost me to a T, RocketGuy3...drove nothing but autos entire life then a few years ago spent a weekend at a track learning and driving stick and it was amazing.

I can see why people would still like the auto option, although I'm all in on the GT350, I'm worried about my first manual car being my first car with over 300hp AND daily houston traffic...but I don't care lets do this! Lol

If it was an option, I'd probably choose it because it's taking a TON of convincing for me to get my wife on board since she had to drive a standard in Chicago and hated the experience.

I have driven a stick for the majority of my driving life, 36+ years, from work trucks, to corvettes and I was looking forward to moving to an auto of some sort but the GT350(R) came along. It appears the fun will start again.

I actually have yet to drive a manual on the track. I will soon. But all the shifting my auto was doing made the experience less smooth than it should have been (granted you can fix that with a good paddle-shifter... the paddles on my '07 IS350 were garbage), and I just felt like I was cheating myself a bit. It was like playing a video game. Granted way more of a rush, but still.

But incidentally Samus (my Mustang GT ;) ) was actually my first manual AND my first car over ~300 hp, too. So that's another thing we'll have in common. I think it worked out fine.

As for your wife, how long did she drive the manual in Chicago? Maybe she just needs to get used to it. It can be tiring to have to drive it in heavy traffic very regularly for extended periods of time, that's my only complaint. Guess there might be a lotta that in Chicago.

autos are fast these days, i dont doubt that. a lot of people who were slow can now be fast...but they arent any fun when the computer does everything for you...wish learning was auto though...fml...

I wouldnt be surprised if after a few years a DCT pops up. ford is going to gain alot of learnings around programming, launches, clutch engagement from the Ford GT which will feature a DCT. only a matter of time before that will filter down. Makes alot more sense to add those learnings to the cost of the GT program (when they can charge more or less whatever they want for the car) then in the business case for the GT350.

Forget an Automatic transmission, just give me an Automated GT350Google... So I can delete the Recaro's and put in a sweet waterbed for my track days...

Hell, you could even have a few drinks in an Automated Track Car while you get your lap on. Be sure to use a spill-proof beverage container and have a nice grip.

I would hate to design a lap belt for a mobile water bed. I can only imagine one place the belt could go to prevent being ejected from the windshield.

Im with thePill on this one. This car needs the Manual and that's it. (just my opinion) Sure the auto would be better in traffic, and maybe faster, but this car was not made for an everyday car, going back and forth to work. (but you could, as long as you don't mind shifting in traffic..lol) This is a race car that you can.... drive on the street. Listen Im 50 years old (still young and full of bullets) and if Im to old to shift this car, then I need to start looking at a Buick. There is going to be a time when we are all going to say...yeah I remember when you could buy a manual transmission.

I would buy one if it came with an automatic. But it doesn't, so I can't, because I don't know how to drive a manual.
