Cool info. But the GTPP is much much closer to the 1ss then the base. Look at the latel g to see that.
Looks like the 2016 V6 Camaro with the brake & cooling package should be able to beat on a base GT at VIR. Even the entry level 4 banger Camaro is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

I like all cars, I've had over 50 of them in 30 years of driving so I can't downplay the fact that this is a good thing for Ford, all of us and the most famous American car ever made The Mustang. I can't wait to see what the response will be.

Green Jacket, Gold Jacket...who gives a shit. Performance numbers from the manufacturer only serve one purpose, to sell cars to idiots who don't know any better. So anyone who is bench racing a Mustang vs. Camaro should have their head examined and get a life. Drag races don't mean shit, cornering g's don't mean shit, and some douche-bag who doesn't like my choice of cars doesn't mean shit. ;)

As someone with pretty broad international experience... I can tell you guys this: Mustangs are world famous. 'Vettes too. Can't say the same for anything else considered "American muscle."

Make of that what you will ;)

I find it very comical that so many people are stating how much faster the camaro will be on the drag strip and track and when someone points out the $5k worth of mod money a mustang leaves room for they scream "VOIDED WARRANTY!!" I really hope you people realize the only place this car will have an advantage is on a track or drag strip which will already void your warranty anyway. If you are worried about your warranty you will be driving this car on the road. On the road these cars will be comparable given driver skill and road conditions negate most advantages either car has on a track.
This. Unfortunately to 99.9% of buyers price matters and is a huge factor. Not the 20 pounds and 25 hp difference, but the $5k.

Someone gets it. I find it funny no one has yet questioned (except Pill in the other subsection with the few hundred page thread) how the Camaro can outrun a C7 according to these alleged numbers from GM.

Car & Driver tested the 2014 C7 at 4.0 0-60 and 12.5 1/4 (Motortrend 3.9/12.2). So a car that is almost 400lbs heavier (3685 vs 3298) with the same engine now runs 4.0/12.3 allegedly GM claims? No one sees any issue with that really? If you believe GM's numbers as gospel you're ignorant truthfully.

It's been discussed. Driver differences. Here are bonestock C7s running sub 12s, all the way down to 11.4s. http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c7-tech-performance/3372952-c7-fast-list.html

Once Motortrend releases their Camaro numbers, compare them. Don't pull C7 data from a magazine (which already shows disparity between the two magazines you listed), Camaro data from GM, and try to compare the two.

What's the official times listed from GM for the C7? That's the only way to actually compare the two right now. All I see is a listed 3.7s for the C7, which is infact faster than the listed 4.0s on the Camaro. So far, GM seems to be telling the truth.

Yawn....Nice performance numbers. Congratulations GM. Car is ugly, was ugly in the 5th gen, too.

I'll be happy with my 2015 GTPP. I mean, it's a slow pig, but gorgeous. Probably can't even get to 60 in 6 seconds, it is sooooooooo slow (rolls eyes). Can't wait to see all the defectors leaving the Mustang world for this 6g Maro. Good riddance and enjoy your new GM product.

Lol best response.

the maro has nice numbers, for sure. but nooot to bad against the stang. but congrats on the W chevy.

You guys still don't know the pricing of the car this website is based on? The car some of you own?

The GT is 33295 with destination. The camaro is 37295 with destination.

The cars are 4k apart not 5k. Not nitpicking that is a large 20% disparity.
With the 2,500 PP the cars are separated by 1500 bucks.

Ford doesn't show you price with destination initially on the website or when googled.

As for the GM specs. GM rates the ls3 SS at 12.9. Mags got 12.9-13.1. Private owners went as fast as 12.5. The fast list has about 15 people running 12.5-12.7. The auto was neutered.

The braking. GM lists the 1le at 120ft. 6th gen at 117. Testing parameters for stoping distances vary and will also change depending on surface and temps etc. but the car should stop well in testing. Fade over a few laps is what I would be worried about with the stockers.

Given the price difference the cars are about equal as far as performance value. The 5.0 responds well to mods and wouldn't take a whole lot to make up the difference. And I'm sure ford will respond.

I think the mustang will continue to win the sales race with its lower price and more drastic styling changes.

Good times

When comparing price you have to look at everything; what they come with in a specific trim and added options. The GT as I would want it would be right around $41k, and the Camaro would also be right around $41k. Both would be comparably equipped except the Camaro would come with nicer 20" wheels that I wouldn't want/need to swap out right away, like I would with the PP wheels. Therefore I'd actually save money on the Camaro.

Looks are subjective, and I think the mustang has the edge both in and out, but I also like this new Camaro, both in and out. And the performance numbers obviously look great.

I love mustangs, but I am not a brand loyalist. I'm a car guy, not a Ford or Chevy guy.

agreed 100%
the reason i ended up with my first ever ford was because she was the best bang for buck in the fall of 2015.

now i'm not so sure....
it will all depend on what the 1SS comes with. if it comes with bluetooth, HIDs, backup camera, and keyless entry/start, then dayum, the only option i would need is dual mode exhaust, and the only mod it would need is tint.

That's another thing, is it comes with a nice exhaust option. No need for aftermarket there. I think it also comes with the magnetic ride too.

I'm with you, not much left to do, pretty much comes turnkey.

Mustangs are awesome but for most it's like right after you buy them you want to do $5k in mods. Wheels/lowering/exhaust, etc.

MRC is an option. But it's cheap. Cant recall exactly but I think it's around 1500.

I mod like some of you. But to be very honest. Heavy modding within the first couple years is very risky and you void your warranty. I wait 2 years 20k miles then let her have it.

I'm not rich and I'm not gonna void the warranty on a 40k car until I at least know it's probably not a lemon.

First 2 years is cat back, cai and crank pulley. Bout it for some hp. And after that like I said game on.
