Well I learned from the mechanic when I went to give him a case of beer, that they had the engine for the last week or so. They decided to just wait on it because it is warranty... if that makes any sense..

SO in the end, Rep lied saying it came just in the morning, dealership lied

what that means is that hand in hand bunch of lies to save their ass from a lemon law suit.

I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I encourage kicking and screaming if you are under a warranty issue so you get treated right.

Now I made them give me a loaner from enterprise and sent in my papers for a lemon law, they are hurrying the mechanic to get it done fast - which creates more room for error.

It just seems fail after fail, although they are taking care of me, if I wasnt someone with a spare car, say a guy with a family with a busy schedule.. I cant imagine the frustration.

:tsk:

makes sense. I wouldn't get too hung up on that though because from what I read, your warranty claim was disputed. Next time, don't do CAI. Too much risk, not enough gains. If you want gains, go big (GT) or go home. Not saying buy a GT. Just stick with the stock paper filter, and enjoy your car.

Well i am leaving the CAI and exhaust on. GT is the way to go however, I bought this to build my credit up a bit and honestly I love working on cars so I am adding JLT oil seperator and Steeda clutch line once I get it back.

Once the warranty runs out and I know the engine is settled I will get downpipe and tune. Thats about it. I am about to finish my degree once that happens down the line a few years I might even go Procharger depending on how happy I am with the car.

I KNOW Cai or exhaust is not the reason for spun bearing (which is what happened to my engine I believe).

I will change the oil every 800-900 miles for 3 times and send the oil to get it tested to ensure the break-in.

First oil change, only 2 quarts came out from the engine. The freaking Factory oil filter had a leak on it. It was not tightened all the way from factory.
bearing failure? I hadn't see that before

not saying this is the source of your troubles, but to hedge your bets going forward :

maybe less attention on gadgets and gizmos and more attention on engine oil levels? :headbonk:

Just keep an eye on oil level so you know how much and how fast it is going through.

Purely because the shop gets paid much more for customer work than warranty work. Everything warranty has recommended hours/pay they get. If it takes longer the dealership eats the overages it pays its techs. That is my understanding of it.

Sometimes you need to find the tech and grease the wheels a bit; but management could be giving the order.

Yes once I get it back I will make sure to watch the engine oil.

That is my biggest priority.

I really doubt you have to do this. I am not totally sold on the fancy synthetic oils either, at least for DD cars. Most important thing is to keep oil in the engine. Any oil. Second most important thing is make sure its reasonably fresh. I guess these new Mustangs will nag you once it thinks the oil needs changing.

Leading up to the that first oil change, was there any symptoms? I would have thought the engine would run hot if it ran low on oil, maybe do a CEL

I used to scoff at the German cars, that removed the dipstick entirely, and just relied on the computer to monitor oil levels, but maybe there is something to that.

You also mentioned a coolant leak. Did it loose any significant amount of coolant ?

this was a subtle concern of mine when buying a brand new car, and it appears to be correct. Cash payers get to the front of the line. I think there is a ton of people that still get their cars worked on by a dealership, long out of warranty, even though it would be much cheaper and more convenient to get the work done by an independent mechanic. And dealerships cannot resist taking these cars in.

I hope my car doesn't require much warranty work

First oil change, the ford filter was loose a bit and had a small leak, coolant was lost but it had some left in reservoir.

Actually I read an extensive post on changing the oil couple times initially. There was a guy with GT who was going to add a supercharger he did this and sent in his oil sample to a company and they have tested it and reported back to him that his engine will not face a premature failure.

I think my car was abused before I bought it. It had 250 miles when I have received it. I did buy it for 20k even + tax + tags

That being said, mechanic told me not much oil came out of the car just today.
I changed it with royal purple and a k&n oil filter last.

Also there was oil mixed in to the coolant in the reservoir. I think engine just burned oil and spun a bearing.

My engine temps were always 205-235

Car has never ever been pushed before the oil heated up and pressure was normal under my care.

That is very possible.
I was looking at a 2015 GT with 300 miles on it but I ended up finding a 2016 at same price. It was a no brainer.

this isn't necessary for NA engines. S/C immediately voids warranty so he was trying to sniff out even tiny problems before taking the plunge.

You have manual transmission or Auto? I suspect the Manuals are more prone to abuse, because its very satisfying to rev the engine. And higher is better

That said, if your engine did get abused / not broke-in properly, I would expect the consequences to be much more subtle, perhaps high oil burn rates after 50,000 miles

this is the latest news? Sounds like the engine had way more significant stuff going on than a bad bearing. You specifically ask the mechanic the exact cause of failure?

Engine was just taken out of the car when I went up there this morning. He is making sure the new short block is quality. He did not yet take the engine apart.

It is a manual. So i really do believe it did have some hard miles in cold weather.

Also a saleman at ford told me that when dealership receives car from factory, they service them, they change oil and check everything thoroughly. And big dealership skip on this because of their volume. He said it is very probable they have not done this hence the leak on the oil filter.

I am so happy with this car, paying it in 3 years, payments @ 470.

I sell Mopar cars now, when I see a Dart priced 22k+ I want to cry for the customers.

I will change the oil at 900 mile intervals regardless to avoid an engine issue in the future.

I am also waiting for the new Speed 3 but that is like 4-5 years away I think.

Mechanic said he will be done tuesday-thursday next week. I ordered cQartz finish kit, JL oil seperator and Steeda clutch line. I will install them once I know engine is good.

I got lucky that the mechanic is super chill and has mustangs as well. He is ordering a whole lot more pieces under warranty brand new so I wont have a problem.

I am also thinking of going 3.55 rear ratio.

If the car comes back and has bunch of other problems, I will try to do lemon law and pay the difference of a base mustang and end all this headache.
