Correct me if I'm wrong, but once Ford (or the dealership) denies a warranty claim isn't it your responsibility to prove the modification did not cause the issue? Why would Ford waste time or money when they provide documentation stating not to modify the vehicle or lose your factory warranty?

If the car is not tuned, why not put back the factory intake and then bring it to the dealer? Things like this is another reason why you should bring your car stock to the dealer for warranty work!

I have a question though! Lets say the car has no problem and you brought in for normal maintanence and oil change, do dealers take permanent notes of the modes you have on your car?

They dont record the mods, but if you're modded why take the risk. Change the oil yourself (why pay the ripoff price to begin with) and if there's an issue take off the CAI and then take it in. It takes 30 min to go back to stock.

But again, more often than not a CAI alone wont be enough to void the warranty alone. It would need something a little more modded regarding affecting the ignition, fuel management, ECU, etc. Something they know they can prove and get away with easily. Changing a plastic tube and air filter is very hard to equate to engine failure.

Oh man sorry to hear about your car but as least it's getting taken cared off!

Btw, so the V6 is a MAF based and only the Ecoboost is MAP?

That's BS. That's like saying because you are not using recommended oil or driving in dirtier air or not using OEM tires. Unless you are turbo charging or something, they have no reason to avoid it because of a CAI. That mechanic is an idiot. I am amazed he is even qualified to be a mechanic.
On a side note what CAI did you use? Did you ever get a CEL because of the mixture issue that's probably caused by incorrect intake tube diameter confusing the MAF sensor?
sounds like something dodge would do...

Well I wanted to update the situation as it can help other people dealing with this kinda warranty problem.

It has been a month and half I dropped my car off with no sight of the engine.

I contacted ford yesterday early morning and I filed for lemon law a week ago through MVA and sent the letter to Ford customer relations.

Today I got a call from Ford stating the engine has arrived at dealership. (interesting)

They have said I will get the car in a few days with the new short block.

I am in the end happy Ford is taking care of me. I also got a rental as well today, although i was looking to get the lemon law approved and move to a GT I am happy that I will get my car back (although i have been driving my fathers jetta tdi... damn what a nice car, 680 miles on 1 tank lol and DSG is damn nice and quick).

We will see the condition of the car once it gets back to me. I really hope it isnt shaking or anything. Anyone ever have a short block replaced? Mechanics I work with said it is a drop in and should be a fairly easy job. does anyone have any input?

Thanks for reading and your replies as always

the engine repair should be fine. There may be some small aftershocks that send you back to warranty repair since this is a big intrusive job.

I just read through this thread, with all the debate on CAI. I have always just ran the stock paper filters. Is the CAI a paper filter or an oiled filter? I can sort of see how an aftermarket air filter would cause concern. What was the failure / diagnosis? If it was pre-detonation messing up a piston, I would be suspicious.

In any case, engine failure is one thing. It's a mystery why it takes Ford so long to get another short block shipped. I am not in the car business, but it seems like they would have some spare short blocks and transmissions sitting on pallets. Once a warranty repair gets approved, load one on a truck, and ship anywhere in the U.S., within a week. Maybe another week do to install. Two weeks max.

It's not that cut and dry as many who think it should be. Truth we don't know all the WHY'S and most likely they won't tell you

Well the service manager claims that they never had a problem like this on any 2015 v6s like this. He said the wait is due to heavy production, I guess all of their engines had a body that was assigned to and it is hard to just ship one out. One service writer said a month ago that they were building it.

Funny thing is they had no idea until yesterday when it would come or a rought estimate even, as soon as ford heard of lemon law, it is almost they shipped it overnight or a big coincidence.

I think I am learning not to buy the very year of releasing of car.

They claim it will be done before 28-29. I guess it really depends on the schedule of the dealership. Still happy I am being taken care of. :ford:

Just went and talked to the mechanic working on my car, they are rushing him he said. They want it done by tonight??? He said he is taking his sweet time to do it all right. We went and talked about his GT outside as well and some woman troubles. I promised him a case of Coors, I think I will have the car back in a few days.

Good luck on your engine repair. Probably better they don't rush the job though. It's a lot of work, and as they say, haste makes waste. Once they got the short block in, I would be happy with a turn around of a week or less.

actually this wouldn't surprise me. Not for the Mustang per se, but for the F150's. Don't know if they run this engine in other cars, such as Explorer. Probably.

coincidence !

it is a gamble. I suppose for many people IRS was an absolute must have. That, and it can be hard to get a good deal on a used Mustang. They hold their prices too much.

Well I learned from the mechanic when I went to give him a case of beer, that they had the engine for the last week or so. They decided to just wait on it because it is warranty... if that makes any sense..

SO in the end, Rep lied saying it came just in the morning, dealership lied

what that means is that hand in hand bunch of lies to save their ass from a lemon law suit.

I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I encourage kicking and screaming if you are under a warranty issue so you get treated right.

Now I made them give me a loaner from enterprise and sent in my papers for a lemon law, they are hurrying the mechanic to get it done fast - which creates more room for error.

It just seems fail after fail, although they are taking care of me, if I wasnt someone with a spare car, say a guy with a family with a busy schedule.. I cant imagine the frustration.

:tsk:
