I love this mod. I'm not going to drill the hole. I think it just needs time to settle in and I'm just getting used to it now. The shifter just locks in gears now. Here is some interior sound windows up.

Sweet!

This is a long thread that has had a lot of replies so far but I wanted to respond to these two comments.

The issue with gear lockouts is due to the shitty design of the linkage on the stock shifter. The linkage between the shifter and the shifting shaft of the transmission has no less than 3 different joints which can bind up and cause a problem.

This is especially apparent on shifts done at full load when the engine and transmission are flexed just slightly and cause the angle of the shift to be different. Even if the transmission shifts just 1-2 degrees it causes the entire feel of the shift to be different and it binds up. The true solution to this problem is getting a shifter thats directly bolted to the transmission and not to the body of the car. (hint: MGW MT-82 Race-spec) This lets the shifter move with the tranny and every shift you make is at the same damn angle EACH AND EVERY TIME PERFECTLY.

The bushing might help reduce the problem, but it wont solve it.

The thud is drivetrain lash and the noise comes from the differential. It is normal.
Blowfish racing has a bracket that mounts to the tranny and the stock shifter bolts to it instead of the floor.

Sending my whiteline back....didn't even open it.

Gonna order steeda this week.
Send it back when you get your steeda so you can have a comparison like touch, feel, make?. I want to hear your thoughts about both. On the videos I can see that whiteline is more harder like plastic and steeda has a bit more flex maybe little bit on the rubbery side?

Still doesn't fix the stock linkage arm.
The jointed linkage arm isn't the source of the shifting issues it's the fact that the shifter is mounted to the floor of the car and the tranny can move. The stock linkage arm will be pretty much a non issue when the shifter is mounted to the tranny.

I would point to the fact that the transmission bushing inserts make such an improvement as evidence the jointed shifter linkage is not the the source of the problem.

this is interesting because just about every aftermarket manufacturer point to the articulation, as well as the bushings, as the main issue.

Of course they do. They are in the business of selling shifters and they will try to convince you their's is the best.

There is no doubt that a solid shaft will have less slop, especially after thousands of miles of use. If it is a concern weld it solid.

But the single best thing you can do to improve the shifting is divorce the shifter from the floor of the car.
