2015 mustang weight?

I just had a second engineer tell me 3200... And right at 300 HP.

Oh shit.
If true, I would think that puts the GT right around 3450 or so. Combined with better aero and a slight power increase, it would definitely put the squeeze on the competition.

This will be very exciting :)

What sad about that is that the sn95's weighed about 3450 with a manual. The EB3.5 weighs more than the 5 liter also. The rumor mill is certainly swirling but I dont see more than 100 lbs shaved off. I dont know how some people are coming up with 350 hp out of a Turbo 2.3? Not going to happen. 300 max is my guess.

Well it's not like we have absolutely no idea what the rear overhang looks like. We might not know exactly where the bumper and deck lid are but we can see the rear valance peeking out from under the camo here so we have an idea what is possible and what is not.

I think a significant length loss is possible if they just took it in more and we see more of a blunted rear like in the clay model pics.

What got my attention was the source saying "high-end models could see a dramatic increase." No bueno.

I know, it sucks. The Z51 package on the Stingray adds 150lbs so, I wouldn't expect a loss for the GT350 or GT500.

That's talking about price, not weight.

If the rumors are true that the high end models will use more exotic materials then a more dramatic price increase makes sense. I would hope they can get it slightly under the GT's with a little bit of carbon fiber and more aluminum.

It's hard to tell, but the sizing of this looks to be similar to the Hyundai Genesis Coupe (182"L x 73"W). That said, the Genesis Coupe with a 2.0T (with 271hp) weighs in at 3,294lbs and the V6 version weighs 100lbs more.

There's certainly nothing exotic in the materials comprising a Genesis... Also, I am pretty sure Ford has the ability to engineer more weight out of a vehicle than Hyundai.

With the lightening of the car, it's important that Ford try to shift more weight to the back of the car. A trunk-mount battery would be nice too, but I'm not holding my breath.

By the way, anyone else notice they said FASTBACK before the vert.... :headbang:
I'm surprised nobody else is talking about that! I'm pretty excited if they go to a 3 body style lineup again, coupe, fastback and convertible. And I'm not surprised by the weight reduction predictions, I mean look how much smaller the cabin looks. This car is definitely going to be smaller, no question about it.

Call me crazy, but when I saw the very first spy pics I thought it looked like it'd be close to 65 Mustang dimensions once you stripped off all the camo. It might not be quite that small, but pretty close. I think that would be cool too, it would be a cool nod to the original, having the car get close to it's original size, even if it ditches the retro styling.

I'd also like to add that the difference between the Ford 2.0 and the Hyundai 2.0T is 6lbs. Also, the Ford Focus Sedan (178"Lx72"W) weighs around 3,200lbs with the 2.0T. The more I look, the more I think it's possible they've chopped a bunch of weight off.

If the GT comes in at under 3,500lbs and 450hp(DI), life at General Motors will be miserable.

WTF? That's 173.5" length and 67.4" width.

Lol this "source" must have leaked the dimensions for the next Focus.

That's almost 9" shorter than a Genesis coupe. No chance in hell unless it's a 2 seater.
I can tell you right now that's not the width. The body was obfuscated by the camo and padding, but the track was unmistakable. It's the same if not a fraction wider. They can shave off a few inches from there, but not to that extent.

Overhangs were significantly reduced. Visible at a glance which means it is more than a few inches.

What that translates into weight is anybody's guess. A few hundred pounds does not seem far fetched to me.

I think your correct, the width will be slightly greater as well as the track. The 2013-'14 had a 73.9 inch width so, an inch or two maybe. The wheelbase is almost exact if not exact as it was last gen. The track likely went up the same as the width. They were 62.3/62.9 fr and rr, maybe 63-64 inches.

The mule doesn't support a claim of a 6.5 inch loss in width but, a 15 inch reduction in total length looks possible.

With a 66 inch width, the track would be about 55-56 inches... That would be the skinniest car ever with a 107 inch wheelbase. That is 1st Gen Miata width and track on an S197 wheelbase. The Miata's wheelbase in 91 inches... It just doesn't add up.

Is it really a fair comparison with the Genesis coupe and Focus sedan tho? There are smaller cars (in length/width) that weigh more just as the opposite is true. I get what you are saying tho, the Genesis coupe sure doesnt use anything exotic.

Yea the car would damn near tip over on turns the way we drive our cars. No pony car should ever have that kind of skinny width/track.

There was some confusion of the track width of the S550 and the 73 inch width of the S197. Somebody got a quick look at the numbers and confused width with track. If the Mustang has increased it's track to 64-66 inches, that is going to be a crazy ride. Especially if the entire center of gravity drops as greatly as it appears to be...

The width of the S550 will depend on the final design of the side mirrors and I don't think they have that yet. Euro Mustang's could require a different side mirror :(
