The diff is NOT designed to take the loads seen while jacking up the entire car. Please don't use the diff on a car with IRS.

If you look under the car, there are four jack points on the body seam weld indicated by arrows on the plastic rocker panels. But there are also about a half dozen spots in total, per side, where the rocker panel has a cutout to access the body seam weld. You can use a floor jack on one of the 4 indicated jack points and place a jack at the next closest cutout, or vice versa. I have done this multiple times to install my exhaust and there is zero damage to the seam weld.

Rhino ramps are also available just about anywhere and are the quickest solution for something simple like changing engine oil. I got mine from Autozone on discount over Father's day.

For a better solution, to limit longterm wear to the seam weld, look into jack pucks. This has been covered on this very forum before, if you search. The diy solution is a hockey puck with a channel cut out. The manufactured solution is something like this:

Those are silly expensive. Also, I don't think I would trust them with jack stand use. It is possible to jack from the rails more inbound from the pinch weld. I just use a block of wood to spread out the weight a bit.

1200 dollars for a set of 4? I might as well get a lift for another 800 bucks. lol I like these a lot...but its not worth that much. Id pay 600 for a set of 4. That's it.

LOL Then buy some! its $600 for 4.
$299 a pair. I bought a pair and use ramps also.

Source? Cause that's just not true unless Ford specifically designed the pumpkin to not take the load. Talking to case design engineers here at work, there's no issue.

Every single car I've had, domestic to import, has also recommended jacking from the rear diff if you want to lift the whole rear at once with a jack.

I was wondering this myself. All my cars that have been awd or rwd ive used the rear diff. including my 04 termi. Which was IRS I had zero issues. It was news to me when he said that.

Do you have a (non anecdotal) source to the contrary? i.e. some place where Ford officially says it is OK? I would have thought that the burden of proof here is on you. All I am saying is that I don't know either way and in any case, ramps are a better solution for installing a cat-back and many other jobs so why risk it?

I have a Jeep and always jack that vehicle from under the diff. But that's a huge solid axle with the weight of the vehicle sprung on top of it. IRS is completely different, you are putting the weight onto the bolts that hold the diff inside the sub frame.

The differential is designed to carry the full weight of any rwd or awd vehicle when its on the ground. If it couldn’t, the axle tube would break. So we know it can carry the weight of the car when it’s in the air, too. Id venture to guess ford puts it in the manual for safety reasons, because people are stupid and would find a way to mess it up. We do it plenty at my dealership.

When i did my Corsa. I put my jack under the diff. Then place the stands under the control arms. I left the jack on the diff also. Ripped out the stock junk and put the new stuff in.

Im sure that's how you did it on your other fords in your signature as well. It works. Ive never damaged anything on any car. IRS or not. I like the front control arms or trans member mount for oil changes.
