Price on the 17 is too much in my opinion and 20k on a 17' Isnt really a garage queen. Go with the 2020 with an A10.

To me, there's a huge difference between a manual transmission and automatic. Get that straight in your mind first, then decide if you want to go new or used.

The only reason OP is looking at used is that he doesn’t want to wait on a new 20’. Money doesn’t seem to be an issue. I agree with you. Decide what you want and if you do not want to wait, get a deal on a leftover 19’ or a new 20’. They are out there.

Oh yeah, I kind of blipped over that, OK, right - just track down a new one on a lot :) I'd imagine there are plenty of cars, enough where the OP could find the exact car they want (color, options, etc).

Hey Mikey. I'm in flower mound right across the Lake from you.

In January I purchased my 17 GT PP 300A with 24k from the original owner locally for $24K. It truly was close to a garage queen so I know they exist out there for a decent value. He kept incredible records and incredible care of the car and was a 100% transparent in every way. Being a car guy myself this spoke volumes and is not something you ever get from a dealership.

As my eldest son was headed off the college last fall I did need a replacement spare vehicle and finally wanted a fun one for myself. I'd looked for CPO used F150 5.0 XLT 5.0 crewcabs and Mustang GTs for 12 - 18 months within a 150 miles of us. My budget was to keep it out the door under 30 grand. It was impossible especially for the trucks as the for dealerships around us are very very proud of their used vehicles.

With that said I agree in the 17 model Being a great choice to keep costs down (not that you are worried about that) however grapevine ford in my opinion is $7 - 8K to high...but they wont budge I bet either. While a 2020 model would be fantastic, I couldn't stomach the out the door price for a new car and the hard/fast/steep depreciation that would follow.

In being fully transparent I did invest another $3k or so more in this car which includes Katzkin leather upholstery (added myself), Ford power pack 2 install (Grapevine Ford install), Steeda Tri-Ax race shifter (added myself) and a 7 year 100k Ford extended warranty (already used once for rear LH wheel bearing).

All this is to say it's hard to find deals on used vehicles at Ford dealer, cream puffs on used dealer lots, or great deals on cream puffs from individuals unless you have a lot of time. It's way easier to pull the trigger on a new vehicle but hurts the wallet a lot more.

What did you end up doing or not doing?

CPO is a way for dealers to over price their used cars. Always look up the trade in value on any used car you are looking at. That is the true value of the car after you sign the paperwork. I personally do not play the retail to trade in value game dealers play. They can make their “margin” on the next guy. I’m the just need to move a unit guy. ;).

Solved my issue. Bought a brand new Bullitt that was special ordered last year. Dude backs out of the deal while the car is in transit. 8K off MSRP.

Hello, I’m new to the forum and I just picked up my 7th Mustang a couple months ago; which is a CPO. I located the car in Jacksonville, Florida. It’s a 2017, manual, 5.0, and had 40,000 miles at the time I purchased it. With most people not able to drive a standard, some markets (selling a standard) have a hard time moving their vehicles; my car being one. The car sat for 60 days and the price steadily dropped. The dealer was REAL motivated in selling the car and I made out like a bandit. The 6spd is a blast to drive and is rowdy. I could have gone newer and went for the top of my budget, but saving $10,000, cheaper insurance, and lower monthly payment for me was the way to go. No buyers remorse. Good luck.
