Looking at C8 Corvettes, and I just... can't... Is it just me or do others view them the same?

I like the C8 on many levels. It's a good combo of a muscle car and a sports car. I'd like to add it to my garage, keeping my Mach of course.

Not sure what your looking to spend but I personally think the zr1x is hard to beat, car is an absolute monster and in person they look so much better. Best of luck with your decision

I think you are either a Corvette guy or not one. I'm not one and never had a desire for one. To me they are just a little too pretentious. I believe the C8 is a good car and a great value bit it's just not for me.
This. I have never been a fan of Vette's. Had a friend who had I believe a 94 in the early 2000's, didn't really impress me. I do respect them for what they are, definitely great performance and they have a great history, but just have never wanted one.

That changed when the C8 came out. Something about the C8 appeals to me. Still don't think I would buy one, but, I would never say never to a C8.

So here I am on a Saturday evening looking at cars for sale on Carfax. Hard to believe the GT350 ceased being built 6 years ago! GT500 4 years ago. Mach 1, 3 years ago.... I'm still not on board with the Dark Horse. So, I started looking at '24-'26 C8 Corvettes... No doubt the Corvettes perform. But I just can't get into the design. I just can't. Am I biased? No, it's just that I don't like how they look. So, I have two questions:

1) Is it just me?

2) If folks are looking for a performance vehicle, that is not a Mustang due to aging last Gen models, or the new Gen because of the tablet dash screens, what do you think they are buying?

I'm just throwing this out there. Kind of a pretend we are having a few Scotches and chewing the fat on all thing's cars.
1. I've always respected vette's and considered a C6 however since I picked up my '17 GT a few months ago, I don't think I could ever own a GM product. I can't seem to articulate why. They're so plain, but that's not the right word. I do like the C7, but why those huge wheel gaps? The C8 is not a pretty car, the looks aren't for me. Have you ever driven a vette? The gearing is so tall, it's almost useless for a twisty road, whereas the Mustang I took it out on a mountain road and I left it in third most of the time (it's a manual, of course). Also, GM is obsessed with chrome, so if you get one, you need to de-chrome it.

2. I don't understand why anyone would buy an S650. The S550's look better, perhaps a little dated but that adds to the character of a mustang. I bought a used S550 with cash sitting in my checking account, why someone would want to go into debt on a $60K car that doesn't look as good as my used car is beyond me. People love to make poor financial decisions.

Don’t like the looks and no manual option. So the vette is not for me either

I'd take a c6 or c7. c8 isn't my cup of tea but GM has sold a lot of them so there are fans..

our local saturday cars and coffee is primarly a c8-fest but the age is also in the 60's as an average and I'm not there yet.....

That's the thing too; one can buy a used 550 for a very reasonable price, add a few goodies, and be happy motoring down the interstate for a fraction of a C8 $. I have not driven a C8 and if I did, I surmise I would like the performance. But not the appearance.

It is good to know that I am not the only one who can't get into the C8 design. I like the Camaro appearance more than the C8. I would take a C8 over a new Charger. But I digress...

I will keep my Mustang (manual) and was intending to buy a Z06, now I've decided to go with a Grand Sport X. The only other Corvette I've owned was a C7 Z06. Like every car, it is the individual taste.

The C8 definitely performs. The biggest flaw is the appearance, but even that gets fixed in the GS/Z06 trim, where the flared wheel arches come in. That said, the base C8 has two problems. First, the front looks good, but it's completely spoiled by the rear, where major compromise was made so the owners could fit golf bats in the trunk. The result is, a car that looks like it was designed in the front, and separately in the rear, then melted together in the middle.

The second is that the PTM is designed to ONLY work with factory tire sizes. So if you stick a wider tire on (Yes, I know they are already massive, but more is better), the PTM freaks out and shuts the car down unless you completely disable the PTM. But the whole point of the PTM is that it really helps turn better lap times. And there is some evidence that sticking a factory size slick on the car also affects the PTM.

Again, it's no slouch on the track. But Mustangs are a different category. Hell the C8 isn't even the same category as the C7 (Sports car vs supercar).

I like Corvettes in theory, but I'm a little too tall to fit in one comfortably. They got rid of the fixed hard top with the C7 and I don't like the 7 speed manual. In the C8, there's no manual transmission available, which is a deal breaker.

I'd love to own a car with the GM 5.5 liter FPC V8 and a manual. Maybe the next Camaro?

As far as appearance goes, they look exotic and fast. I don't mind them.

I've been hearing people say this - I only wonder about two things:

1. Would GM tune it down a little bit so it doesn't match the HP of the Corvette version?

2. How much wider is the DOHC V8? Would it fit in the engine bay of the Alpha II platform?

I'd absolutely buy one - especially that they're coming out with new engine and new Grand Sport version - but not a fan of yet another car payment and my current car is fun enough.

They're great and well engineering cars, punching way above it's price point.

If GM designs a new Camaro, they should plan to put their best engines in it.

I'd be fine if they tune the LT5 down to 650 HP or so.

I really appreciate the c8 for many reasons. It's brought new people into the car scene, looks exotic, and performs like an exotic. Plus the ZR1/x are certified INSANE. However, as long as I'm limited to 1 fun vehicle and don't have any physical limitations, it will have a manual transmission.
