Howdy fellow stang friends;
I got my EcoBoost at the end of Sept. but drove very little because I work very close to home and also had a surgery in Oct.
I usually let the car warm up for about 3 min ( I live in Dallas, Tx and it is quite warm still for a winter). I drive fast, from a stop light to the next and usually reach about 85mph (I leave early to work and no much traffic). I used for the first 500 miles with 87 oct gas. Last Thur, I left to South Texas and drove 510 miles one way, using 93 octane and also using the toll road with the highest speed limit in the country. I decided to push all the car would go. I am quite disappointed and maybe I should be, and that is why I am here to ask few questions:
1. How long it takes for the engine to "brake in" (mileage).
2. Is it wrong to drive fast after your engine has warm up and for a short period?

Maybe it's limited to 125 due to tire rating? (Just checked it should be limited to 149)
Are you getting any engine lights? Some owners have reported turbo hoses popping off.
Also why use regular gas when you are driving it hard?
Does seem pretty harsh to drive at high speed for the first 2000 miles to me.
Usually I keep engine rpm below 3000 until fully warmed up and 4000 before the first 1000 miles and 5000 after 1000 miles until first oil change. Then I let her rip.

Dont worry about break in so much and enjoy the car. Mines seen multiple hard WOT pulls daily since i got it with 200 miles on. And on the dyno with under 400 miles on it too.

Sounds like you have a lead foot too. Check us out at Brew City Boost for some go fast parts and tuning too! Tell em large marge sent ya and ill toss in something special just for you ;)

1) If you go into the gauges there is one that tells you when the oil temp is Low and when it reaches normal operating temp. I wait until it reaches normal before I cross 3K RPM

2) 1,000 mile break in before pushing it is what I followed

3) If your car is a non- performance package then it is probably speed limited at 121mph. The performance package cars are limited at something like 147mph

Just get a Cobb accessport and have Adam tune it. It will wake her up, and take off the speed governor. There's videos of guys on the autobahn with a ecoboost "tune only" dipping the needle into the 160MPH

all the people that did baby break ins out of the 30 of us that dynoed all had lower horsepower. one common thing i noticed from everyone I asked....everyone making more power with the same mods as others all broke the engine in hard.

i redlined my engine 2nd and 3rd when it had 5 miles on the odometer :)

Thanks for the info. Let me make something very clear before I ask you something; I am a guy on the upper 40's and I really never cared about cars much, but trucks and had Hemi mostly of my life. However, when I saw the new Mustang, I felt in love and decided to go for it. Until I got to hit the highway, I was impressed how this 4 turbo pulls. But total disappointment when I couldn't go over 125 in a new car. I checked the COBB accessport and it is about $500 and I was thinking that everything I had to do it was to buy that and change the setups to make it faster and at the same time, safe on the engine. What I don't understand (yet) is why do I need and extra tune ( from Adam, like you said) if the COBB is already a tuner ? Also, how much more am I looking for to spend, after I understand the why ? I appreciate your time in explaining this things that for mostly of you all is part of a basic knowledge. Last, I promise, COBB guarantees that I can reset back to the manufacture setup. If I add the tune from Mr. Adam, can I still do the same ? After all, I rather be a bit cautious regarding my warranty...even thou I have a heavy feet.

Again do you have the PP? I believe the non-pp EB is limited to 125.
