PP vs. no PP - how much $ is too much?

I'm sure this question has been asked a number of times, but if the price difference is $4500 between a PP equipped car and one without, where would you draw the line and go build your own aftermarket PP version?

That's the situation I find myself in. The '16 the dealer wants to sell me, with the same options except the PP

I've priced out suspension and wheels/tires and am at almost the cost of the PP but haven't looked at the brakes or gears.

I really like the price on the base car, but want the features of the PP.

Are the cars you're shopping the same other than the PP? That's "only" a $2495 option, and you get quite a few components for the price. Canadian prices?

The Ford "Build Your Own" Mustang site says it costs $2495 for the Performance Package. I believe you are quoting the "GT Premium" price instead.
If you like the Performance Package items, get it.

As others have said. PP is only $2500. The brakes and Torsen are worth that alone.

Yeah, when I first started knocking around the idea of a Mustang, I considered a '15, and doing the PP on my own.

To get everything, you'll spend 2-3X as much (parts and labor, or some considerable DIY) and while some of the aftermarket items may actually be better than the PP, but you might also wind up with components that don't work well together, they're not covered under warranty (and for that matter you can't finance them, so it's OOP).

For the money, it's hard to beat.

Do you mean $2500? $4500 is way too much for PP unless they include other things like 201a/401a.

Credit union pricing on the PP option is only about $2k too, so negotiate it down to that. At $2500 its a good deal, at $2k its simply a bargain too hard to pass up. You can sell the parts for more than that. If you are planning to go mod crazy then maybe you can justify not getting it, but the parts are worth more than that to just sell off later too.

The price of the car without the PP is just that much cheaper ($4500) do to the dealer being more willing to bargain.

I can't get them to move below X-plan minus incentives on the PP equipped car, so it's not just a ~$2000 option any longer, regardless of the retail/invoice price. Otherwise I think it's a no brainer if you want the option as you can't replicate it at anywhere near that cost.

But $4500 does buy a lot of mods.

Go to a different dealer. Some are much more willing to deal than others. There is no reason he can negotiate more on one car than another. You cannot spend this much money on something and not get exactly what you want.

New car pricing isn't a secret anymore, its not even hard to find a good deal. Go to Trucar, or if you have a credit union see if they offer a car buying service. Trucar pricing is typically a pretty good price without having to fight it out with the finance guy. The dealers will all email you and give you their best price. I used USAA car buying, which is basically Trucar with a minor discount, like $500 less than standard Trucar.

Isn't X plan minus incentives a really good deal already?

I just ordered my base gt with PP. Price was 32.8k out the door total. Thought I got a pretty good deal. Not sure exactly where X plan pricing compares though.

OP, I didn't go for the GTPP and I love my car. I owned a Boss 302 Laguna Seca, and I would say my GT handles extremely well. It is cheaper to just buy aftermarket parts that are more superior rather than the GTPP package.
