yep for my purposes, straight line performance is more important than cornering.

I'll also wait for real world tests, not what GM self-servingly says the numbers on.

If you believe the Camaro is that close to the Stingray being 200 pounds lighter, which Car & Driver tested the 2014 at 4.0 0-60 and 12.5 1/4 (Motortrend 3.9/12.2), you're smoking crack and I got some ice to go sell to Eskimos.

4.0/12.3 is VERY optimistic being minimally 200 pounds heavier.

Which part of this thread is not about track times wasn't clear? THIS IS ABOUT 0-60 AND 1/4 MILE STRAIGHT LINE POWER.

Read the original post. Please show me where track times are anywhere?

Start another topic if you want to talk road track. Sheesh. Talk about tangential arguing when you can't win a point.
We all know how fast the base is in the 1/4. The PP is faster.

The pp mustang is not any faster then a base gt. Both pp and non have run 12.5s.
You should tell the guys with the PP that. Most believe there slightly faster due to better tires and gearing. Even mags show a slight lead for the PP.

they will et different obviously but trap similar. ive noticed they trap basically the same. after the 660 the base gains ground from the litttle ive poked around comparing a few pp vs non.

You really think a base GT is close to the 1ss. Your not doing much with 18" all season tires. The 1ss will be more compared to a base GTPP. Now that weighs 3780lbs, so now your near 100 lbs heavier. This also puts base to base prices less then $1500.
You can't compare a base 1SS to a GT PP. The PP has track-specific upgrades that the base 1SS simply does not have. Bracing, cooling, and especially the ever-underrated brake upgrades (which is where much of that weight comes from).

With that said, I'm not denying that the Camaro is probably still marginally faster overall than the GT, but when you take price into consideration, I think the difference is negligible. This comes down to a matter of preference/priorities. I, for example, appreciate the superior visibility in the GT, and I think it's a far better looking car. Sync 3 is also a better infotainment interface IMO. And as someone who tracks his car, while I appreciate the SS's performance, I can't overstate the importance of having super strong, nearly fade-proof brakes on the GT PP.

Plus, if you get a proper exhaust on there, the car sounds better, too.

You may want to look at the specs of the 1ss. I already made a list a few post back.

Yes, I've seen the spec list. I know it has a handful of go-fast bits that don't come standard on the GT, but the PP still has more. It's not an apples to apples comparison.

Man I hate to sound like a hater, but honestly the more I look at this car, the more I really don't like it... It's nearly indistinguishable from the previous generation, which got old to me within about a year on the market. Even the 911 goes through bigger design changes from generation to generation. Mustang designs over the past ~20 years have aged much better than Camaro designs, IMO, and this generation looks to be no exception.

I'm also reading that they decreased head room and shortened the wheel base, taking away leg room from an already nearly-unusable back seat.

It's a good thing it's fast.

I agree people ooo and ahhh about cooler this and that and 3 radiators, but is it even needed on the 5.0 setup? No one even stopped to ask that question before ooooing and ahhing about a spec list. Totally different engines so it may not even be needed the way the 5.0 is set up vs the 6.2.

Just tossing a spec list out without context means nothing. It's like the years old Apple vs Android debate. Ooooo Ahhhh Android has 4gb of RAM and it looks huge on paper, but it NEEDS that to run smoothly where the iphone can run smooth on 1gb. Not apples to apples comparison and a spec list means little without context and overall function.

The 5.0 already has an oil cooler. I have yet to see anyone racing their 5.0 strip or track say their trans of diff overheated without a dedicated cooler (and we have some serious shops here running in the 8's and 9's); or their car overheated with only 1 radiator vs 3. So I would say that's a non-issue on the 5.0.

In fact the trans and diff coolers on the GT350 are optional add-ons, and only 1 radiator, so obviously Ford determined that the voodoo could run 526hp without them just fine. Clearly for some reason Chevy determined their 6.2 with 60 less hp needed them standard. So it's clearly not an apples to apples comparison listing bits that are different without consideration for the platform differences. Ie. its a non-issue/factor if the 5.0 doesn't need them.

Sad to see people on a Mustang forum digging up every nut and bolt to try to prove somehow the SS is a better value vehicle 20 pounds lighter and 20 more hp but a base price of $5k more; and taking GM numbers as gospel. Unless one believes a car 200 pounds heavier ran as well or better than the C7 real life tests.

i for one don't care about any of that. as long as it does 12 secs with an A8, HID headlights, backup camera, bluetooth, keyless entry/start, and dual mode exhaust. sign me up..... the only mod it would need is tinted windows... jeez
