I have 2k miles on my car so I called my dealer to get the oil changed and they said to wait until I have 5k on the car.
He said the factory puts an additive in for break in so I'll wait.
This is hard to believe but the dealer lied. The factory puts oil in your car. When you change it,hopefully early, for the 1st one at least, you will put better full syn in.

My dealer told me that the first oil change was free. I asked if I could have it changed at about 1.5K miles. He had no trouble with that! They will charge for the difference between their synth-blend and the full synthetic that I want.

It appears that the majority of people on this form know more then the very own engineers at ford...Im gonna start a new myth stating that you need to change out your tires at 100 miles because the tires they give you stock on the car aren't regular p-zeros their ford made p-zeroes that blow up prematurely.

Im not changing mine till about 5k, previous car changed at 7k and had zero problems.... Then you are all going full synthetic and changing it super early, might as well stick with regular conventional oil. Waste of money, but if you got it like that go ahead.

I bet half of you guys change out your tires when their dangerously worn and wait till the last minute on much more low cost maintenance that could just as easly lead to the end of your motor.

Sorry Im just tired of seeing these threads where people change oil 3times in the first 5-10k miles. Just drive the damn thing!

This. I can understand modifying a motor and tuning companies improving a motor, as most manufacturers safely tune them to meet emissions and for insurance reasons, but when it comes to basic maintenance, I'm sure no one would really doubt the engineers that designed and developed the motor.

If the engine oil should be changed at 1k miles, it would've been in the manual.

Changed it today at 3000 miles. Went with Mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic and a Motorcraft filter for my Ecoboost.
Changed it myself. First time I have been under a car in thirty years.
Next change in 5000 miles.
What's the filter the EB runs? I'm about to change mine at a little over 1k miles

Thanks.

Motorcraft
EB - FL-910-S
V6 and V8- FL-500-S

from page 268 of the owner's manual

You can get the FL-910S for about $4 from Walmart. From what I can determine, Walmart lists them under their own part number as MTCFL910S. I believe that the MTC is just Walmart's way of abbreviating Motorcraft. IIRC, I just ordered them online for store pickup and checked the filters when I went to pick them up. They were, in fact, FL-910S.

I'm doing my first oil change not only on this car but ever today. I am at 2580 Miles.
I have ramps, 10 quarts(i know i need 8), a filter, pan and the rest of the necessitates. I'm following rules and using Mobil 1 5W-20 Full Synthetic and a motor craft filter recommended from orieleys. I got everything for 160. Probably going to stick with 5K intervals

A few things I've found very useful changing oil:
-- rags - changing oil is never neat. You will need to wipe up the occasional oil drips and minor spills and clean your hands
-- oil changing drip pan such as this; http://www.autozone.com/shop-and-garage-tools/oil-drain-pan/flotool-galvanized-drip-tray/475418_0_0/ It's great for catching the oil that misses the actual oil drain pan. Keeps your driveway or garage floor clean.
-- gallon zip-loc baggie. There's almost always some oil that drips down when you remove the filter. At the suggestion of someone else here on mustang6g, after I loosened the filter slightly, I put a gallon zip-loc baggie around the filter and removed it the rest of the way. All of the spilled oil collected in the bag. It was great. I poured most of the oil in the bag into the drain pan and zipped up the bag with the filter inside before throwing the filter into the trash.
-- you may also need an oil filter wrench if the filter is too tight to remove by hand. A trick to removing the oil filter by hand. Wipe it as clean as you can. Take some tape and roll it into a tube sticky side out. Stick the tape to your hand and grab the filter so that the tape sticks to the filter as well.

A couple of other things to remember;
-- make sure to rub a thin layer of oil on the gasket of the new oil filter before installing it. This keeps the gasket from binding to the engine.
-- when filling with new oil, fill to full mark, start the engine and let it run for 30 seconds or so to give the new oil filter time to fill up, turn off the engine and let it sit for a couple of minutes to let the oil drain back in the oil pan, and check the level again. It should be down a bit, probably a pint or so, due to the oil that's now in the new filter. Fill back to full and you're good to go.

I changed mine at 1k, like I do all my cars.

I used the MotorCraft 5w20 synthetic blend, and the oem 500S filter. I also added 2oz of zddp for the hell of it.

I pulled the FP fuse and cycled the engine twice, after reading many threads here, and everything went well.

I'll probably keep using the blend oil, and do 3-4k oil changes instead of my usual 5k full syn.

PS, loving this car.
