Convertible as a daily driver?

They are fine DD. The only reason you will think its not is because the top down experience is so good you feel closed in and closed off when you leave it up (for rain, < 60 or 99+deg days). If you have a coupe then every day is the same kind of "meh" so you don't feel the loss of awesome.

...unless you want a track toy, then the coupe is a better starting point with the extra structure.

quietest I have owned

This is my 5th convertible, and by far the quietest! It's too quiet. I am probably going to put in a cat-back exhaust that I can hear better.


btw it's also the quietest I've had with the top down. On the freeway I can actually have a conversation topless, but with windows up. Turbulence is minimal in the front seat.

My '15 vert is my daily driver and I'll echo what others have said. It's a great car and I love it. Mine's also a manual transmission, great for daily use!

If you have any doubt how quiet it is with the convertible top, just take a test drive down a busy freeway. Then pull over, lower the top, and drive the same stretch of road again. You'll be amazed at the difference.

I drove an SN95 GT Convertible for 9 years. I'd still be driving it if I didn't get rear ended by a woman driver to damned busy trying to cut into the exit ramp instead of waiting her damned turn in traffic like everyone else should do.
Yea, I'm still bitter...But never took issue with any noise. I would have bought a convertible '15 if the fastback didn't look so damned sexy!

I rarely drive mine with the top up. With my FRPP Touring cat back I enjoy hearing the exhaust. Love the open air feeling, the visibility is the best you'll ever going to get, nothing blocking your view.

Top up is rather quiet.

Only time I drive with top up is if it looks like it's going to rain, raining, or it's 90+ degrees and the sun's beating down - that's just too hot after a while.

People love watching the top going up or down, it's fascinating.

I'm pretty anal about UV protection and use Macguire's Natural shine on the vinyl and plastic and Gold class leather cleaner and conditioner on the leather seats once a month.

99??? If I let that stop me I'd not have it down all summer. It was 108 today. That got the top up! The a/c is great!!

By the way, one of the best times for a vert is at night. It can be amazing with the smells and night sky, cool air and generally quieter environment. Make sure you get the premium with the heated seats! It's a terrific luxury you will not regret.

You sir are correct. Driving top down at night makes it all worthwhile.

I have a 14 GT convertible that I pretty much daily drive. I drive it with the top down most of the time, top up when its too hot or raining only. Road noise is more than fine with top up, it really doesn´t bother me at all, so my guess is the 15 convertible is at least the same if not better insulated.

I don´t see any compromises having a convertible as a DD, save for the occasional time when you need more trunk space or dropping the seat backs down for more space (can´t be done in a vert).

Before owning a convertible I really didn´t like them very much (my brother had 2 mustangs, a BMW Z3 and a boxster) because they felt "unprotected", but the 14 feels big and safe and enjoy it every single time.

I love my EB convertible as a daily driver. The only thing that makes DC traffic tolerable is being able to put the top down. But it is pretty quiet on those winter days and rainy days when the top has to be up.

The truth is, convertibles are made for warm spring and fall days, and warm summer nights when the air feels soft on your face. Most other times, it's too hot or too cold and the fixed roof is a better compromise.

But don't let me stop you. I loved having the convertibles. Except when I hated them.

My GT500 was my first convertible, and three years with it showed me that I am truly a hardtop guy. I don't see myself owning another.

Traded in a 2013GT vert for a 2015V-6vert, so the engines are quite different, but here's my take on the new verts...first, the mechanism for working the top is quieter and faster on the 6G. Secondly, the top is more padded/insulated. Thirdly, the IRS is much more quieter on the 2015s. And lastly, I believe the car is indeed quieter whether the top is up or down based on the lines of the car and rake of the windshield. This Mustang convertible is truly a winnable DD. All three engines shine in the Mustang vert. Driving a convertible Mustang is as close as you can get to the thrill that driving a motorcycle gives
you in a car IMHO...go for it.
