I have my car reassembled after my sock mounts broke and I am noticing a "clunk" under certain conditions - usually at low speeds. I noticed it before the broken shock mounts episode but didn't pay much attention to it as I thought it was just from the stiffer shocks. It does sound now like the shaft of the shock is somehow hitting the mounts. If that's the case, it would certainly help explain why the shock mounts broke. It sounds like BMR and Viking are investigating.

Yup, a fix is in the works and I, along with Kelly from BMR will be sure to keep you guys posted. Although the issue with the noise is in no way related to the failure of the shock mounts. The black threaded adaptor on top of the shock is simply lightly tapping the inside diameter of the shock mount as it goes through the mount. Not a possibility for the failure.

I used two stainless washers and a nylock nut on mine (top of shock)
skipped the supplied hardware
also added a washer to each side of the lower mounts as well

no issues so far for my set up regarding clunks or noise

Anyone else try something similar to get rid of the clunk? I'm thinking these are a must mod to get the most out of a lowered GT, but want to make sure all problems are solved before making an order. Tia

No noise from mine!

Successful installation on PP Ecoboost convertible. I used some appropriate sized washers on top of upper mount. Insured the top shock studs were centered in upper mount.

Got about 1000 mi on new shocks. Big difference with settings of 3 and 5. Front and rear suspension seems to be working together much better. Harshness and bounce gone from rear.

Previously I have modified the front sway bar. Installed 25 mm rear bar(center pick up point), adjustable end links, billet vertical links, rear toe links, Steeda front K brace and Ford racing tower brace. Along with an agressive alignment car is simply planted in the corners.

Incredible performance. Thanks BMR.

For the few people that are experiencing noises from the Viking shocks, I have been assisting (or rather, playing the middle man) them.

I have been dealing with Viking on trying to resolve their issues, and the "fix" may end up being a revised shock body and shaft design - to mimic the OEM shaft. I am unsure of how this will affect pricing, but I am hoping that it will remain the same.

On that note, I have had 2 customers within the past week have issues with the upper shock mounts making noise, both with stock rear shocks and both PP GT cars.

Needless to say, we are in the process of developing a nice(r) upper shock mount for those who want to upgrade them. I am not going to share the specifics about them, but they will be a very nice upgrade (for several reasons) for just about anyone, regardless of their rear shock/spring application. ;)

Looking forward to the fix Kelly and I will definitely want your upper shock mount. I am not even using the Viking shocks right now due to the noise. Frustrating to me as they ride light years better than the stock PP shocks I just can't stand the rattling.

Very, very much looking forward to the fix.

Thanks for all you do Kelly!

Have been working with the Viking guys on a fix for the few folks who have some noise issues. Thought I'd share an observation - you can get the OEM bump stops mounted on these shocks. It is not difficult with the right tool.

I used a big-ass socket and a rubber mallet. You'll want to up the compression so the shaft stays put. Works best to put the bump stop right at or slightly above the hex section of the machined post. The dust cover fits and everything goes together like stock. This may help if anyone else decides to "go agricultural". Just be careful you don't damage the threads on the post.

I'm still noise free with proper washers and a nylock nut:thumbsup:

any update?
Same here. Me and two other s550 mustang buddies of mine have the rear shocks as our next mod. Cash in hand and ready to buy if the Viking shocks are already revised. BMR, what's up?

Not sure who designed the top mount adapter. It's actually kind of a mickey mouse arrangement. It would be better redesigned by Viking but would require a different piston to eliminate the need for the adapter entirely. I hope a new top mount is designed and marketed but if the shock is redesigned the new top mount is less necessary. Although the stock cast piece doesn't seem all that robust for stiff shock settings.

I am enjoying the difference the Viking shocks made as a compliment to my other suspension improvements. AND they look great.

Just put mine on today and I have the rattle ... I did use the factory bump stops like you did but did it a much easier way ... Just remove the top of the shock mount and the jam nut and slide the bump stop and dust boot right on and then reinstall the jam nut and stud ..

Mine has the rattle or clunk or whatever you want to call it ..so you added two washers to the very top ( threads )and that fixed it ? Or did you add one washer to the lower of the black part and one on the top ?
