Which car to get? Manual or auto?

Test drive both, I did, the manual drove great it depends on how you drive it. Before I got use to the clutch the car was a bit jerky but after I found that nice spot, engagement point, it feels great. The auto is nice but in manual mode it lags, in normal mode its fine. If I had a second change I would still pick the manual. The reason why I traded my 2013 Camaro SS for the GT was because the clutch and the engine sucked compared to the Mustang.

This exactly for me also, after hearing my tranny for 5 months i would never recommend a manual anymore.

I did drive both and I loved the way they both drove. I liked the feel of the auto in sport mode but it was a lot of fun banging gears also.

I wouldn't buy an automatic sports car since that's not enjoyable to me, but to each his own. I often drive it to work in heavy traffic...would never trade it for an auto. But that has a lot to do with the fact that I genuinely enjoy shifting and being mechanically involved.

Having owned many of both, the answer is simple-

Boils down to which you will be more comfortable with.

Some cars "require" a stick ( disregarding Ford factory preference ) ie. my old 2001 BULLITT- that one HAD to have a stick.

My first S197- a 2005 Premy GT HAD to have stick.

The 2012 Coyote 5.0 I enjoyed with an Auto.

And, I LOVE my PADDLE SHIFTING 6 Speed Auto- WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT, Eco '15.

In my case, I have been shifting gears for too many years to not enjoy relaxing, and let the incredible engineering do what it does
better than most of us can hope to do.

I've owned both the MT-82 and the 6R80. The 6R80 provides, hands-down, a much better driving experience for me. And while I do have to confess to having arthritic knees and a traffic-ridden commute, those aren't the only reasons I enjoy the auto more.

In any case, my thoughts on the matter are that you should ignore both sides and decide for yourself. Don't start out by assigning a lot of weight to what others might think about YOUR car. If you do, you might make choices that will hinder your own enjoyment of it.

All my Muscle cars for the last 40+ years have been 4 speeds ..But i'll tell you right now I wish I had got the auto trans with this car ..Bumper to bumper traffic is killing me with this m6 ..It takes all the fun out of this great car ..2017 I will be trading mine in for a auto and you can bet money on that .. 2017 I'll get a base GT with an auto with 3.55 gears ..

It's a sports car. Buy a fucking manual transmission. The only time flappy paddles are acceptable is when it's a dual clutch car.

No, it doesn't. It works just fine. If you want manual, go get it. Otherwise you're going to regret it. And don't listen to "just as much fun..." nonsense because it's nothing more than nonsense...

The manual is fine. Once you put down 500 plus to the wheels you will need to consider some upgrades to the manual. I got a auto with 3:55's I love it. It has a car seat behind the passenger seat and if I need to reach back and take care of bidness I don't need to worry about what gear I'm in. I also plan on some type of forced induction and I am happy to know this powerhouse of a transmission will be fine for quite some time with the extra ponies.

If you are going to drag the car and add a turbo down the road than an Auto would be a much better choice.

A manual trans. is more fun in a sports car, won't argue that, and it is fine for a stock GT, but there are 100's of threads across the various Mustang forums that can tell you the MT-82 isn't one of Ford's better idea's.

Keep in mind if your going to drag race + add forced induction to a manual car you're going to end up spending a lot more money than an Auto for items such as a shifter ($450), halfshafts ($1600ish), and a clutch ($850ish).

I've test drove many 15 GT's the past few months (both manual and auto) and I don't care for the manual in these cars. I'll most likely get an auto and if I become bored with it I'll sell it and consider something else.

Drive both is the only way you can make an informed decision of your own. Good luck!
