I'd love for it to be an...for no other reason than to piss off the...crowd.
Well thanks for telling everyone what motivates your choices.

As for me, I'd prefer it to be a V8. Not because of some fairy tale narrow mindedness.. But because it's simply capable of MORE than the V6.

The GT500 is about MORE.

And the TT V8 would proved MORE than the V6 both from the factory and in potential.

As for what Ford will actually do... who knows. Nothing is all that surprising anymore.

But a V8 would be the best choice all around.

Beautiful, isn't she?

From Automobile Magazine:

What do you think?
I would love to see someone photoshop this to have that classic Eleanor look! :D

No. Bad design all the way. Ford won't do that.

From the backwards step non functional reaer side scoops (again with the scoops, really?) to the RTR looking grill pig nostrils, to the 2016 Camaro inspired front side cuts, to the way none of it blends together...

Not a fan and cannot see it happening.

I have a hunch the GT500 will debut along with a bodywork refesh that takes a much more modern direction.

More click bate. Why bother with a turbo six when the v8 is already making 750 easily?

That's the thing.

The V8 is capable of so much more.

Why settle for a 650 hp TT V6 when you can have a 1000HP TT V8.

The 6 would literally have ZERO advantage, from power, to powert-to-weight, etc..

Fuel mileage might be better. But that's not why you buy a GT500.

But you do have some that want to see a lesserr engine in the top dog simply to upset everyone... like that's a great sales tactic.

I'm hoping for a subtle wide-body look.........and if this were to coincide with the first refresh (new lights and a freshening of the front/rear ends) all the better.

As for the engine........I'm sure a GT inspired Ecoboost 6 would be amazing, but NOT in a GT500. V8 all the way, please, with twin turbos. It HAS to have the V8 music, too. A heavy beat rattle your innards, so no FPC, make it CPC.

I want something aggressive, yet elegant. Henrik Fisker got close, although the grille needs work. And there's 725hp, right there already. GT500 "needs" 750hp. GT500 needs to be top dog not just in terms of Mustang, but in terms of all pony/muscle cars out there today :)

It's funny you guys say no, because the same no's were said before the debut of the V6 GT. While I still believe the GT500 will be a V8, I won't hold my breath

This. I too believe it should be a V8 but not holding my breath.

The article is correct that Ford have championed downsizing, and this is a strong argument for using the V6 in the 500. It makes "sufficient" power with added benefits including less weight and more efficient.

The argument for an Ecoboost or blown V8 is that there is a power war happening and although the V6 may be capable of producing over 700hp it may not pass emissions as easily as a less stressed V8. Added to that Ford may not want to be the first to move away from the V8 as it risks losing a street cred amongst the traditionalists.

Another argument for the 8 is that the Mustang isn't exactly light. Tuning the 6 for torque means sacrificing the top end, and that would mean Ford would not want to take back the "most powerful" mantle if they go V6. A 650hp TT V6 will decimate the Hellcat in any performance metric, and that just may be enough a reason for Ford to drop the V8 from the 500.

Timeline

Looking back to the earliest sightings of GT350 on this forum takes us back to late September '13

http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7452

The production GT350 was then revealed November '14.

So, mules were seen for around 14 months.

The big question is whether Ford would choose to celebrate 50 years of the GT500, which would require it to be a 2017 model. As we've just seen the details of the '16MY now, you'd expect to hear official '17MY news around this time next year. Surely, that would mean we could expect to see camo'd mules any time now?

However, to throw a spanner in the works to those theories, I'm guessing it's possible that GT/GT350 cars could already be running GT500 running gear and hiding in plain sight?

Ford really are good at keeping us guessing :ford:

Not saying this is super accurate, but one of the engineers that work at GAS stated that Ford is taking cues from the Rocket for the next GT500, styling wise.

Take that however you will.

Extra-long front end for the oversized intercooler... ?

While I'm not a huge fan of the grille, overall this car with a TTV8, making around 700hp on 87 octane, would absolutely destroy the rest of the pony cars in the marketplace today(and not to mention the Corvette as well). Price it around $55k, sell it in 3 or 4 colors, build it right on the mustang assembly line, "limit it" to around 5k units per year, and Ford will being using GM and just about EVERYONE else as their b_tches.

P.S. I would sell my soul, and give away my wife for the car I mentioned above.
