I Guess It Doesn't Matter Where You Park?

I had a coworker of mine who had bought a camaro brand new when the latest gen came out ask why I parked with all the gen pop cars. "Aren't you worried they'll mess it up?" So I showed him pics of my old cars, and this one, all parked in BFE, with one crap jalopy next to it or a door ding, or my grills shattered (BMW), and just said, thats what insurance is for with my extremely low deductible.

Some things can't be helped. After my BMW had just been repainted in the entire front end, a lady backed into me (high as feck on drugs, long story) and GEICO paid out the ass to get it completely redone. Needless to say, I changed insurance companies and have never had to worry about it since.

I know what you mean but the truth is we don't own the parking lot. The BEST we can do is park out and away from the area where most people park but that will also draw attention to your car and cause SOME A$$holes to WANT to park next to you.

You can't win.

I always try to have at least one side of my car at the end of the parking spots so no one can park on at least one side of it. If there is a barrier or landscaping, all the better.

It's sad we have to resort to such tactics to try to reduce the likelihood of stupid behavior by stupid people.

Best thing I've learned over the years is a corner spot. I always sacrifice the passenger side of the car and just let it be. I park as close to the edge of a corner spot as possible and still have gotten plenty of idiots who park literally on top of me, over the white line... Dings are my biggest concern, I hate them with a passion, no one can truly understand my hatred for this. I taught my wife to follow the same routine in parking lots, so far our SUV has one small ding on the passengers side after 4 years, not bad for the grocery/family car.

I think some people think its easier to park and allign next to a car instead of alligning in between the two lines! Thats one option, second might be like " hey look a new mustang so cool i want to park next to it and check it out"! Third option " i dont give a damn about his nice car, rich bas...rd, it is a parking lot i ll park wherever i want, i want to piss him off and maybe scratch his fu...ing car" kinda option! Am i missing anything else here?

Dropped by the local FedEx place to pick up a package at 10:30 AM on a weekday. No one except 2 cars in the parking lot on the edge (guessing employee cars). I'm at the counter talking to the guy and the door chime rings, guy walks in. As I'm walking out, I see this. ENTIRE PARKING LOT EMPTY and he parks his shitty ass FailBlazer right next to mine. There were many spaces closer to the door. I would love to be a psychologist to understand this stuff.

Regardless, I get what you guys are saying, and I too park at the back of the lot and away from others, but man the sense of parking space entitlement is strong with this group.

Regardless of your car being a DD or not you will always end up parking else where if you are going from point A to point B as in point A being your garage!

All of this discussion reminds me of a story my father told me about coming out of a store (before I was born) to his 72 corvette and found a women that had parked next to him....and was changing her kid's diaper on the hood of the vette. He asked her why she didn't change the kid on her own hood and she just shrugged. He quick jumped in and fire it up and started to pull out and she lifted the kid up and she gave him a dirty look

Like the car washes, a little bit of extra car (if there are plenty of spaces, park a few over, if there is a corner space, grab it) is worth it, but you can't drive and enjoy the car without expecting this will happen some day so it isn't worth parking miles from places, stressing, and disrupting your life for something that has a high likelihood of happening.

I went to the gym yesterday and I parked toward the back where no cars were but a pickup parked next to me anyway. I didn't get any door dings. I wonder how long it will be before we new Mustang owners will just start parking like normal and think no one really wants to get dings on their car new or old?

Dings are inevitible; just get the first one out of the way and stop worrying.

I just park normally. There is no use parking way at the end because someone is just going to park next to you. In fact I think it makes you a bigger target than just parking normally, because you stand out a lot more.
