Major improvement with MT82 fluid change

Found 3 qts of BG today locally and picked it up. Paid $19 per qt. Calling to schedule the first oil change tomorrow and I'm going to voice my concerns about the notchy shifting and see if they will do the fluid change for me under warranty while it's on the lift.

My next oil change i will be at the dealership requesting a tranny fluid change as well. I like what i am reading here. starting the car cold, that first shift from first to second is getting to be a bit of a pain...

Usually ford won't put in aftermarket parts. ESPECIALLY under warranty. I'm sure they'll use the BG but not under warranty, they'll make a note of what's in there and it will still cost monies. I'm sure.

Someone here asked and they did it. As we know, all dealerships are different. It never hurts to ask.
But I wouldn't consider a fluid an "aftermarket" part. If I change my own oil, is it considered aftermarket? As long as it meets or exceeds Ford specs, they can't come back on me with it being an issue. Toyota tried this years ago and USSC told them that if they wanted to use oil/fluid changes as an excuse to void the warranty, they would have to provide it for free to the purchaser of the car.

Why would they comp the change? They might do it but I doubt they would drain and fill for free...with non-ford oil. But good luck! I'm going aftermarket trans fluid too.

OK, I've got to pay for the change. They quoted me about $50 for the time. A little high in my book, but I don't have to put it up on stands and crawl under it. And I'm a little busy with a funeral this weekend. Probably just suck it up and let them do it.

That's a bit much but it is not that quick to do it yourself. There is such low clearance under the mustangs that even on jack stands its hard to get under there to the middle of the car and then reach into the center well to get to the fill plug location.

I knew they would charge you but hey, from what I've read $50 seems totally worth it in my book if it actually gets rid of the thud and grinding.

That's just labor. Fluid was right at $60. But not having to pull out the stands and deal with all the crap this weekend, I think $50 is a bargain for me right now!

Ok, the dirty deed is done. Only charged me $40. And I will say that there is a noticeable difference in shifting. 1st to 2nd is as smooth as butter. 2nd to 3rd clicks in place 99% of the time, but once I felt what I could best describe as feeling a gear tooth engage into another gear. Other than that one time in a 6 or 7 mile drive in stop and go traffic, it was perfection! And hell, it might have been me not pressing the clutch in all the way.
Sounds like the dealership might have a few complaints over this issue because the service mgr. wants me to call him Monday and report back.
And perfect timing. Sunday morning we are having another cold snap down to 30 degrees.

I'm very happy about this. What fluid did you use (Im sorry I forgot what brand you mentioned you used) and did the additive XL-18 get added?
