It shouldn't vibrate in sport mode. You definitely need to get it looked at because of that, if nothing else.

Does the RP Synchromax already have some sort of friction modifier in it? Also, would you guys recommend using any sort of friction modifier with the synchromax fluid if it doesn't have any included? I have been waiting for months for Ford to get me the XL-18 additive and they haven't gotten back to me, so I will call them today and and them about it.

GT base, a loud one.
As far as I can tell Amsoil transmission fluid does not give the spec or cross reference for our transmission. Royal purple does. Can someone post about BG cross referenced for our transmissions. And should we still use the friction modifier (XL18) with aftermarket fluid?

Should it be used and where are you guys getting it from?
I think you can order XL-18 on line through Ford directly (I seem to recall either Ford Performance or another of their on line stores has it)

What is the oem spec for the Trans fluid?

Also what would be the best fluid for colder weather? I live in WI and currently I get tough notchy shifts in cooler weather. I've noticed that below 45/50 degrees my 1-2-3 shifts are notch. I've had it to the point when I can actually feel third gear bumping synchros and almost grinding.

Normal mode. I don't use Sport mode since that's what really hurt my transmission/car (it vibrates now after a transmission slip/kick).

I left it for service yesterday at a dealer and it's being checked, but I haven't heard anything from them yet. I've already been at 3 different dealers (4 appointments total), which is why I'm kind of frustrated, and trying to find other solutions that don't involve Ford's Service.

I apologize again, I'm sort of new to this (MT/AT Fluids, Mounts, etc).

don't hassle with the dealers any more, contact corporate ford, talk to a regional service manager, and have them pull strings. If some ones gonna get shit on, it shouldn't be the guy paying for a new mustang.

I have BG Syncroshift in mine and it has been great for me even in single digit temperatures. Been rocking this fluid in my 2011 for over 4 years and 33,000 miles.

Did you have the 'thud' when shifting before the change? If so, do you have the thud with the BG?

My understanding is that internally (anything the fluid would touch) the 2015 mt-82 is the same as previous years? So no reason to expect there would be issues using BG in the 2015?

Just not liking what I am reading that Ford may deny warranty work in a different fluid is in the tranny.

Thanks grimace. I just found a shop less then a mile from my place who is a dealer. Looks like I got a weekend project.

My 2011 has a Blowfish racing solid shifter bracket, clutch line, and 1-piece driveshaft. It makes all kinds of clunks. The two 2015 manuals I drove were silent in comparison. I drove another member's 2015 earlier this week and it makes the same backlash noise when depressing the clutch(though to a much lesser extent) as mine, which is completely normal. I haven't heard what people call the 'thud' but I suspect it's a normal noise of the manual trans.

You can't have warranty repairs declined because you have non-original transmission fluid just like if you have non-original engine oil. As long as it meets the specifications(BG, Amsoil, Redline, and many others do), your warranty is not affected.

I recommend swapping fluid for cold-shift effort issues.

Thx, the thud I get is when I shift gears - upon engagement of the new gear. Don't really have much in the way of cold shift issues - really on 3rd - it can be a bit finicky when cold.

I am pretty much 100% certain the thud is normal. That said, I would much prefer it was not there.

I have heard "thuds" in my 2012. But I have upgraded rear lower control arms, upgraded shifter bushing and mount, Steeda Triax shifter and I run Redline MTL. The 2014 and prior cars are solid axle and the 2015 is IRS. Also, the 2014 and prior use all metallic joints (U-joint(s) and CV joint) in the driveshaft, whereas the 2015 uses a rubber puck (at the transmission) and a CV (at the differential). So, the attachment of and to the rear differential is different, which means the noise transfer paths will be different.

Like said by Gimace427, it sounds like you are hearing normal manual transmission, driveshaft and/or differential noises from changes in the internal gear clearance stack-ups. Traditional automatics have the luxury of a huge hydraulic pillow (torque converter) and tighter-meshed helical planetary gearsets. That all creates a much less sensitive noise transfer path.

This XL-18 stuff was around when the 2011 cars came out. It seemed to have sorta disappear from conversation around mid-2012/2013 car model year. Now it's back for these 2015 cars... The "Fully Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid" that was the original fluid the 2011 and Job 1 2012 cars came with. That fluid, just plain and simple, was not a good match for the MT-82. The switch to the "Dual Clutch Transmission Fluid" was a good move, but the transmission still needs something better. I've driven using both of the prior mentioned. Just switch to one of the better fluids mentioned - Redline, Amsoil, BG or even Royal Purple. You will be fine. My car has been from -10F to 100F. Sure, 2nd was not too happy at temperatures below, say, 20F, but it's a manual transmission... Go 1st to 3rd for the first 10 minutes or so of driving. The 2nd gear should be fully useable once the fluid warms a bit.

Found 3 qts of BG today locally and picked it up. Paid $19 per qt. Calling to schedule the first oil change tomorrow and I'm going to voice my concerns about the notchy shifting and see if they will do the fluid change for me under warranty while it's on the lift.
