I Hate Michelin…for this one thing!

Michelin is actually known for, and I think they even openly state the possibility…you can get different sizes within the same tire and they will look completely different by having different designed sidewalls. Case in point, happened to me today. Discount got my new tires in. Cup 2 (240)’s. No Porsche or other vehicle spec tires. Just the generic ones. 265/35 and 305/30 19’s and they are different. The 265’s have the big rim protector section and the 305’s do not.

Further, Discount has two different part numbers for each size with absolutely no descriptions on the Discount pages to distinguish what’s different between them. Discount is gonna get the other part numbers in this week to see if 1) we can put together a matching set, and 2) see if you can tell any differences between the part numbers.

Maybe you guys could, but I can’t have non matching tires front to back. That would drive me bonkers.

I actually don’t have an overbearing presence on which I like better, just want four to match.

Think "Discount" is the operative word here.

Non-rim protector makes it look like a track only tire. Rim protector adds weight. I probably wouldn't track a SC2, but I would definitely go non-protector.

That difference would bug me too.

I have one set of RT660s, 315/30/19, that I "practice" with, and a set of SC3Rs, 325/30/19, that if I am trying to set a PB, I throw on.

The SC2's, if you have a stickier tire on another wheel, probably would be excellent for that "practice" if your goal is lap times actually.

I would love to, but fly up to Alaska Monday for a caribou hunt. And I've not packed much stuff yet. Enjoy the event, I look forward to hearing how it went!

Could have changed the designs as well. The one tire you posted was made in the 14th week of 2025, so it is over a year old already.

I’d contact Tire Rack tech since they’re owned by Discount now, they will confirm issue at stock level right then and sort it quickly in my experience.

Just in case you're tracking, narrowed down the tire differences via the vpn number on the tire. All variants identified. DId not solve the dillema. All the 265/35 variants (a generic, a Porsche, and a BMW) will have the rim protector. The 305/30 will not. Guess it's on to plan B.

What's the reason for buying the sizes you did, 265/35 and 305/30? they are not standard sizes for the GT350. Those sizes may be designated for other cars, hence the difference in rim protectors.
