I've never seen anyone voluntarily switch to run flats. They were awful and were hard as rocks on my Bimmer.
Now you have. I won't be without them. Twice this past year they have gotten me off the road to safety after hitting debris on the highway at 80/85 mph.

I'm not sure why people are always willing to except that something good can worsen but something bad can improve. Yes the old run flats sucked but that doesn't mean they haven't gotten better. You drive what you like.

That is the good part, but they ride like a stage coach wagon wheel.
I'll stick with non-run flats a lug wrench and a spare tire , a jack and a small piece of plywood to jack up on. if shoulder is soft.
They (run flats)ride like they are load rating "e" truck tires, put on a car.

That literally is their only advantage. Once something bad already happened they will not give up some driveability and let you drive several miles, but not much. Noone will want to fix that tire for you as they do not know flat tire mileage.

But if you have TPMS and a spare in the trunk chances of
needing run flats are negligible. Even just a tire plugin kit might be enough to save your tire. AAA membership card will work as well.

Former rft equipped car owner (twice) here.

P.S. bmw made big deal mentioning their suspension was designed for rfts specifically. I felt some minor loss of steering feel once converted from rfts.

I'm not sure the run flat tire market has made any revolutionary leaps in the past year or two. And regardless of the improvements, run flats are always going to be harder than their NRF counterparts. That's just the facts.

Mine are very quiet. Even on the chip rock TX is now using. As I cannot change a tire as I once could, for me they are well worth the cost.

...does anyone have a favorite all season they would suggest that does well in the rain?

I thought of adding winter tires since it does snow a lot at our elevation, but I have a truck I drive in the snow. Also, once you get about a 1/2 mile down the mountain the snow turns to rain here.

I have previously always gone with Pilot Sport PS4s but I am open to suggestions if someone knows a better option or an "as good" option for less money.

Thanks.
I bought for my first change Michelin Pilot Sports, larger size then stock (changed to 20" wheels from AM) excellent tire, very sticky, good tread life.

Because they're garbage tires that have terrible life expectancy and zero grip in warm conditions, wet conditions, cold conditions, dry conditions? In basically any circumstance, they're the worst possible option.

I personally don’t think they’re as bad as you say. I think they corner pretty well. I haven’t driven with them in the rain a lot but I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. I wound up finding a set of PP wheels with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+’s on them already to use as my winter tires.

To me the worst part is how long they take to heat up enough to get any real grip. They have to be hot. Unless I want to do burnouts once I get to the paved road I am never getting decent grip on trips under 25miles at speeds under 60mph.

Conti DWS 06 (plus). They WILL flat-spot overnight in freezing temps. Don't know how well they work in snow - probably not great. But they were good in cold (non freezing) rain.
That was going to be my suggestion as well. I had them on my 2016 SHO and couldn’t have been happier.

I’ve had zero issues with mine any time I’ve done some spirited driving. I have a turn marked at 15mph recommended speed and I’m able to take it at 45-50. Any more than 50 then I’ve had it break traction, but got it right back after I took my foot off the accelerator.

Any performance summer tire is not designed to be driven at under 40F, they can be down right dangerous

The 2020 GT Premium I had Michelin Pilot Sports 4S and when I trade it with 17, 000 miles they are more than half tread left but on my 2021 GT Premium this piece of S*&* Pirelli with only 9500 miles they are almost done maybe 30% life in them. I dont maybe one 15 second burn on these but on the Michelins I did a few as I remember. These Pirelli's have the worse thread wear of all.

Potenza RE980AS+, bought these on sale, great all around tire, wet/standing water and no issues in 20* temps. I even autocross it in very cold temperatures.
I bought these tires back in October and absolutely love them. You can run them year round, 45k thread

My stock Pirellis wore out in 10K miles. Switched to 20" rims and Michelin Pilot Sports, very happy.
