I was wondering if pulling my starter motor relay, (#81 in the under hood fuse/distribution box) will prevent my 2020 GT from starting for use as my anti theft device? Will anything be damaged if I do this? I found some answers to my question after I "searched forums." Thanks!

I’m interested in what others in the know have to say about this. On some others cars I’ve owned, I used to pull the fuel pump fuse when I had to leave for extended periods.

I can't imagine anything being damaged by doing it. Otherwise if the relay failed (open relay coil, high resistance in relay contacts, etc.) damage would occur to your car? That would mean it was poorly designed in my book.

Starter relay bypass works like a charm and it's a lot less worrisom than messing with the fuel pump circuit. If you prefer the cheap analog approach with hard-wired switches, you could run an extension adapter from the relay socket in the fuse block to a remote relay with a kill switch inturrupting the switch wires to the remote relay. I tried disecting a Ford relay and soldering leads to make the extension adapter but packaging is tight under the relay box lid and it takes some practrice to make it short enough. Or, even better, Mobilistics used to offer a simple adapter from NoStart meant for Chrysler micro relays (same as Ford but but the Chrysler switching blades were "normal width" and need to be trimmed to match the Ford narrrow blade style) and you could fit the complete bypass relay system under the lid. Running the kill switch wiring to the interior is as simple as trimming off the nub on the firewall harness grommett designed for running accessory wires through the firewall.

Not that long ago, we used to run the starter relay thru the old high beam switch…but nowadays, it stands out like a sore thumb cause few recognize it anymore 😂

My very first car was a 1966 Mustang Fastback with a 289 and automatic that had that high beam switch on the floor. I think that was in 1973! It brings back memories.

I have a switch on my 6r80 that you cannot get the car out of park , also take 5 seconds to remove the fuel injector fuse. Both of these are just in case someone breaks into my home while I’m away or electronically break into the car using a scanner.

lol, I have since gotten past the kill switch…I have three German shepherds, a locked gate 600 yards away (farther than 3 of the 4 armed forces can shoot at sharpshooter level) a fully capable black angus bull that will kill to protect his herd, motion sensors, night vision cameras and four armed people in the house, all before you ever get near my car…if you can get past all that, you earned it 😘

Yeah, that's nice, but it won't protect the car when it's parked at a supermarket while you're doing the shopping inside. You still need a kill switch for that. 🤓
