I may have to trade her in or sell. It’s killing me.

Like the title says. I have reached a decision point. A few things have converged making the GT350 not too optimal for me.

1. I had free overtime for the last 3 years. I was working 70-80hour weeks every single week since then. I work from home on a laptop sitting on my ass. Long hours aren’t hard. I was CRUSHING IT financially. Now I’m restricted in OT to much less. I’m not broke, but I have less fun money. The car is worth more than I owe, so I won’t get hurt too bad selling or trading.
2. I have a kid on the way, and the GT350 is just not a good family car. I also like fishing and surfing and need a vehicle for carrying that stuff.
3. I have no warranty and if I had a catastrophic engine failure it would financially cripple me.
4. Because I work from home, I barely drive. I have this huge car payment for a car that just sits there. I do maybe 5-6k miles a year; sometimes less.

I really don’t want to do it. But it just seems like the rational thing to do right now. It’s got 44k miles and is in pretty good condition. Clean carfax, fresh tires, no dings or scratches bigger than a dime, it’s clean.

Chevy offered 42-44k trade in depending on condition. Checking prices that seems pretty fair.

This sucks. I don’t want to do it, but may have too. It really is the best car I have ever had. I probably will never be able to get another one. There just isn’t that many of them floating around that hit all my wickets. I was lucky to find this one.

Get a crew cab F150. It's versatile. You can carry your fishing gear in it, it has space for the baby AND you can make it a hotrod. My old F150 below. Made 955whp. 10.1 in the 1/4 mile on the street. 100% stock engine and 100% stock trans. All the street manners....and your grandma could drive it. No Chevys please!

In the end, it is just a car......but a damned nice one! It'll be like the girl who got away, you'll never forget her, and over time your yearning for it will be even better than the car really was. Only thing worse than selling it is if it got totaled in a wreck cause then you wouldn't have had a choice in losing it. Sometimes you have to listen to your brain more than your heart.

Seems like your doing the rational/responsible thing. You can always buy another GT350. But you only get one chance to spend time and money on your kids.

OT comes back. That bigger paycheck can be had. It sucks, but every reasonable person will tell you that you are doing the right thing.

Fully respect your responsible side kicking in here, so props to you!

I agree it will suck to have to get rid of the GT350, but your family IS more important.

Do you have an option of keeping the GT350, and getting a reliable family friendly car, maybe a 2nd gen Tacoma? I have a 2011 Tacoma Prerunner as my daily, which now has 208k miles and is still running strong.

I will bet you there are more than a few people on here that sold their favorite car because they started a family. Or any one of a zillion good reasons to make a mature adult decision.
Big props to you!! Happened to my friend's son-in-law. Met this guy's daughter while they were all at a car show. Early 20's, recent college grad, massive gearhead Had a gorgeous 2007 or 08 GT500. She got pregnant. He stepped into a 2019 Explorer ST. You might want to take a look at one of those...

Is selling the family an option instead?

Keep it and buy a cheap beater to drive that can haul a kid, your surfboard, and your fishing pole.
Of course you have to do what you have to do, but if it’s even an option I’d keep it, being a GT350.

Well, there is a reason a lot of Corvettes, Mercedes, Mustangs, Porches are driven by grey haired older guys... They work for decades, raise families, pay for kids braces, kids team travel ball sport expenses, pay for college etc. Then, they get their fun car. The problem here is that the GT350 probably will not return down the road in a way that is like your car.

I know that this does not solve your issue. But it sounds like you are leaning towards family now. So if you decide to part with the 350 and get a more family and hobby friendly vehicle, perhaps set some money aside periodically so when the time is more right, you have a head start on another fun car.

Best of luck to you.

Im trying. I would rather cut my arm off than get rid of this car. I had always pictured keeping it forever. But then again I never planned on having a kid. That just came out of nowhere and im scrambling.

Im a meme at this point. The middle age guy having to get rid of his sports car for a sensible SUV.

Makes me sick. I love this car. It has personality. It’s out of the box, hard to believe the bean counters approved it in the first place. Ugh.

They made GT350's from 2016-2020, you WILL be able to find another one in a few years if that it is what want. Most owners never track or drive them so there won't be a shortage of clean cars.

Being upside down on a car is rough. And GT350 values are holding well. If you had spent that money on any other car you would be a lot farther upside down.

I'd say selling seems like a good call, but only if you buy something really cheap that you won't be upside down on (or at least not for long). Or don't replace it at all. If you sell the GT350 and buy something new for the average new car price ~$52K, I don't think you are helping yourself.
