People still buying INDY500 tires is mind boggling to me... and to be paying over $1000 a set at that! Those are near decade old tires with decade old tire technology. I was considering them as a cheapo burner option back in 2018...

A little bit of research goes a long way, especially for something as important as tires.

There are multiple better tires for similar prices, and MUCH better tires for not much more: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=329

If you'd like my suggestions for best performers:
1. Conti ECS02(Street and Light track)
2. Michelin PS4S(Street and Light track)
3. Bridgestone Potenza sport(Street only - they wont hold up at track)

For budget options:
1. General G-max RS
2. Yokohama ADVAN Apex V601

Michelin Pilot Sport S5, the successor to PS4S, is already being used as an OE tire.

I ran Michelin PS4S back to back sets, loved them. Recently switched to Conti ECS02 and they are also great. I have no brand loyalty, I make my tire decisions based on data and research. I switched to Conti because the performance was nearly identical to Michelin, the price was less expensive and just to mix it up a bit from michelin!

Good luck with your tire selection, its probably the most substantial performance upgrade short of throwing on a blower or new suspension!

I love my Firehawk Indy 500 tires. Great multi use tire (not all season) that won't break the bank and they last.
I had those on another car. Grippy in the dry, stiff sidewalls though affecting comfort, and a tiny bit unsure in the wet IMO.

I watched the Tyrerack tire comparison vid posted here recently and the Falken FK510/520 and Kumho Ecsta Sport PS61 might work for what you want.

So, when I bought my Mustang back in May, it came with a set of these tires on it.

I had never heard of them, it saw that they were pretty cheap, as far as price goes. They’re rough riding, do not grip well, etc.

Went by Discount Tire today to preside some new tires. With their warranties, the Continentals I was looking at were about $1300, and the Michelins were higher than that. I have 245/45R19s on it now. Want to go a bit wider. Either 255 or 265. Anyone know of a solid, good riding tire that’s not insanely expensive like the Michelins?

Tire Rack just did their updated 2025 Summer Tire testing and the Kumho’s were very good for the price.

I run BF Goodrich Comp 2As on my 2011 Mustang (winter car). Very good all around tire. No problems in the rain, and they can get by with a little snow on the ground. My 2021 will most likely wear a set of these when the P Zeros are done. They are priced right if you ask me. But all the other tires mentioned are good choices.

Second set of Indy 500's and they've been great. 27,000 miles out of the first set and 12,000 on the second set so far.

Tire Rack rates the Continentals higher than the Michelins. I always check Tire Rack website for their tests. Someone posted a video of their tire tests recently. It's worth a look.

I’m running Indy 500s too. Can’t comment on longevity yet, but even with the ESS supercharger, shockingly they’ve got more than enough straight line and cornering grip for me.
What gear/mph can you floor it in with the traction control off and not smoke the tires?

Wow 40k, impressive for a summer tire. How are they in the rain? And i don't mean after 40k which i'd assume they're slicks by now, but in general?
They are very respectable on a wet surface but not as good as an AS tire would be. Even at 40k the front tires (which have never been rotated because mine are staggered) still have tread left except for the inside edges due to an alignment issue I didn't catch until it was too late.

Continental is every bit as good as Michelin and at a slightly lower price. I used to run Cooper back in my younger days when I had a lower budget for car stuff, not sure how they are now but they could be a good option at a lower cost. As seen here, several folks run the Indy 500’s and almost everyone speaks very highly of them. Continental Extreme Contact Sport02 (or the original ECS if you can find them, that’s what I have) is probably the best bang for buck tire that I’ve driven recently. If the Indy 500’s are every bit as good as everyone here says they are, they would probably take that spot of best bang for buck, I just haven’t driven on them so I can’t speak to them.

If you want an all season tire, Continental DWS06+ is fantastic, my dad has them on his Mustang.

You pay for what you get, but I’ve heard the Aturo AZ850s are good.
Do not get the atturos. I bought the AZ850 because I had heard the same as well. Running 285/35/19 on my car. Roughly 450 wheel. They’re garbage. For $500, I guess they’re fine to not break the bank, but I’m tossing them after this one summer of use. They hook about as well as my continental DWS06+’s, but those were like $1200 or so. I spin through 70 mph lol. If you’re looking for a good tire, this does not belong on the list.

Falken, Firestone, Cooper all great tires that cost less. I do love Falken FK510 smooth and quiet ride great traction wide operating temp range.
There was another thread here awhile back about people putting the Falkin 510 on their cars and being surprised at how good they were. Some stating they were just barely behind the Contis. I was looking at them because I am about to need new tires as mine are just getting very old 6 years (not worn out car lives in garage but hardly driven) and looked at the 510s but they have gone up in price it seems like. But maybe on a promotion sale they are worth a look.

Those Acceleras are garbage, Atturos are garbage...

Good tires are not cheap and cheap tires are not good
I would offer a different perspective rather than a blanket statement.

I only occasionally commute and cars/coffee in a town that never sees snow/rain. atturos will fit the bill just fine.
you may track/autox and drive the car on spirited roads as well as adverse conditions. atturos will not be a good choice.

I would not give them a second look on this car if I still lived in green bay due to rain/humidity on the roads.
atturos are one of the higher rated tires in the offroad community and come with a lot of accolades. newer in the car scene so we'll see in a few more years.

Apply for a tire rack credit card and get 0% financing for 6mo. Labor day sales are coming up with good discounts and some manufacturer offering rebates also.
