i'd love to see these logs
Here you go.

This was using Premium gas, but plenty of gas stations don't meet the advertised octane rating. My tuner figured this was probably 89 octane at best. By this time the copperhead ECU had changed its long term timing values to "expect" crappy gas so instead of seeing knock retard you'll see horribly low timing instead. This is why I always go to top tier gas stations now and stay away from the grocery store gas. And this is still higher than 87 octane and still my car obviously didnt like it.

This is the lowest gas prices we'll probably see for a long long time, maybe for the rest of our lives, and people still put 87 octane in a brand new pony car. /facepalm

SO much BS in this thread. The recommended fuel for the 5.0 is 87. The owners manual does not say "minimum". As for pulling timing at different temperatures, do you think Ford didn't test this thing like crazy at different temperature extremes before recommending 87?
It does say minimum 87 but I agree with your whole point. Ford engineers tested the crap out of the car with probably hundreds of years of experience on their team; they know what they're talking about rather than the weekend enthusiasts here.

It doesnt matter how you guys want to interpret the manual, if you run 87 your car will be constantly having to adjust due to knock/ping. You may not ever hear it but that is because the copperhead ECU is pretty badass and is saving your butt by constantly dialing down the timing parameters. If you doubt it feel free to get a SCT Tuner yourself and do the data log and enjoy seeing 18 degrees of timing instead of 25 and watch your knock retard spike like a mofo during WOT runs or engine load. I don't play the ignorance is bliss card with my car, but thats me. I'm not guessing or blowing smoke.
I think it's pretty unanimous people aren't/aren't going to pull WOT runs with 87. But for grocery getting I don't see the issue. As above, Ford engineers did not let the car get out of testing with 87 with harmful knocking while recommending it in the manual. Will it spike, maybe, will you blow/damage your engine, probably not because most people aren't running WOT on 87

My signature line tells you how I feel. However keep in mind that Ford's own specs on the 2015 Mustang state HP and torque ratings are when using 93 octane gasoline, with 10% ethanol assumed.

Just stop. There is nothing wrong with putting 87 and a brand-new 5.0 Mustang...

That is what you feel, not what you know. I've said what I feel, but also provided evidence to back it up.

Everyone has their own car and their own choice obviously. I merely felt obligated to share my experience when I read some really uninformed posts here.

When my Pirelli's bite the dust, I think I'll replace them with POS garbage Coopers too! (I don't understand the mentality of spending tens of thousands of dollars on an automobile, and then going "on the cheap" with it.)

Your "proof" means nothing to me.

If it never blows up, there's your proof. If it was an issue ford would not say put 87 in it. Contrary to what you believe they aren't stupid

I have heard mine knock. Actually, quite a bit. It will never see 87 again.

thanks for posting the logs. this is great info. when you get a chance can you post "good" logs once you find quality 93 fuel? that will shut down all doubt.

I try to use octane free gas, those octanes are dangerous.
And I add 1 can of this every month.
Seriously a 10 page octane thread.... Just put in unleaded whatever. If you feel like "treating" yourself or your car and can swing it, put in the "good" stuff and don't accidently grab the diesel nozzle. There you go.

I refuse to use anything but straight-up 87 octane, alcohol laced cheapest crap I can find. The Coyote couldn't care less.

I cant believe this thread.....wow. The Coyote is an 11:1 compression motor and from what a lot of the dyno guys are saying, it likes to have higher cylinder head temps. I will be using the best 93 I can find. Sure, it will run on 87...but mine wont see it.
