It was, I wanted one so bad when they came out. I was 15-16 at the time.

Absolute flop of a car sales wise. But man it was cool!
Actually had one mess with me a bit when I was out in the Mustang last summer lol. He wasn't even driving the speed limit so I passed him on a back road and then quite a bit later he decided to roar past me, I let him go, but if he wanted to go fast in the first place I wouldn't have passed him :)

Pretty nice looking car, for a Ford product of that era.

I make fun of it more than anything because regretfully, this generation of car designers/executives are so reliant on previous generations work. It’s pathetic. Here’s a challenge..Be bold. Make your own brand, and make it as popular as the real Mustang.
Even in music. My friends 14 YO listens to new music with old music mixed in. Why, because they simply aren’t as creative anymore and it shows in everything..I can hear it now….
Let‘s use the Mustang name so if the car flops no one can blame it on the group that named it. :like:
I get it. The way I see it, Mustang sales are declining and rather than kill it off, Ford is trying to make it its own brand and have various lines off that brand. The alternative is we lose the Mustang altogether, and then we have no American pony car remaining.

Not sure if that’s necessarily lack of creativity, but I get what you’re saying in that regard. It is kinda funny how “retro” things come and go. Hell, Jordan shoe styles from 30-40 years ago are super popular with the kids these days. Nike/Jordan are going to milk that train as long as they can. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it as they say. Just my $0.02, which ain’t worth much LOL

And why is it that you think the word association between Mach and Mustang is? Because Ford paired the two for the Mach E. Name and logo are part of the package. Right or wrong, that’s what it is. Assuming this thing comes to fruition, it will likely be called Mustang Mach 4. I have zero issue with it personally.
My thinking is that FORD using the word Mach for a car 'automatically' associates it with a Mustang. '69 Mustang 'Mach' 1 is an iconic classic car for just about any age (yes, mainly over 60 as Bikeman corrected me above).

No need for the 'Mustang' Mach E or 'Mustang' Mach 4. The association is already there so just remove Mustang and the pony logo off both cars. I actually do not have a 'problem' with using Mustang in the name either, but I feel it is a bit superfluous, so not needed. This way, there is only ONE Mustang.

Ford did it a few year ago when they tried to bring back the 500 and montego.

Fairmont, LTD, Galaxy, Gran Torino, I mean there's quite a few names that could be brought back. Of all the names Ford has slapped on models, turning the Maverick into a trucklet was the worst in my mind. My aunt and uncle had a Maverick, pea soup green inside and out no less, and it was a cool car. 289 sounded neat to a 7 year old kid when I first rode in it. Now Maverick isn't even the same type vehicle at all.

How about just bring back the first 'Mustang' ... and call it the Falcon Mach 4!

Fair enough. And that might be more of the lack of creativity that IPOGT was referencing. I can agree that the use of Mach is probably a bit overdone, assuming they do produce this car and call it Mach 4.

The way they are going with the Mustang name it will bare no resemblance to the OG in a fee years either.

Montego was a Merc., but yeah..a technicality…. :)
And what was the 500? they tried to get rid of they Taurus /sable names. To "Five hundred" ND "Montego "05 to 07. Didn't work out. For some reason.

As a kid I had a '65 Galaxy 500 with a 289. It was an underpowered hog but had a great big back seat...

Wasn't the Ford 500 a mid 2000's replacement for the Taurus?
Right on. Just finished this fairlane and I have a 70 marquis 429 convertible.
Ya ford tried to rename the Taurus.

Pisses me off but they are bound and determined to ruin the mustang name. Already did with the Mach E. People on here saying it is good or they would buy it are part of the problem. Want a car for a family? Go buy any number of CUVs out there. That is not a Mustang. I have three kids at home so I know the deal. I would never consider this or a Mach E.

I like the Dark Horse name as a replacement for Shelby. I mean Carol Shelby isn't building, signing, or giving his okee dokee for cars anymore. At least Ford did something original with a name. It just confuses us old people.

I just think a 4 door Mustang is a mistake.
Ford should stick a big picture of Torino and/or Fairlane on the wall of the designers and tell them to think of these when you're designing the car.
