Ford is not tanking. And they already came up with a new name which most of us on here didn't take kindly too. So, us usual its a lose, lose for Ford.
Let me put it this way, now might be a good time to buy stock, versus, say, a few years ago.

And still a stupid name.

I wouldn't mind a four door that is a 'different design' from the s550 or s650, buy call it the Mach 4 (as mentioned above) and keep the horse logo off the car. That's what they should have done with the Mach E. Call it that and do away with the horse. The vast majority of people that hear the work 'Mach' associated with a car think of the Mustang, anyway, so no need to have that name or logo on the car.
And why is it that you think the word association between Mach and Mustang is? Because Ford paired the two for the Mach E. Name and logo are part of the package. Right or wrong, that’s what it is. Assuming this thing comes to fruition, it will likely be called Mustang Mach 4. I have zero issue with it personally.

Why does ford overwhelmingly feel the need to dilute their catalogue of historical names? Did anyone tell them it's okay to come up with something new?

Bronco Sport 🤢
Mach E 🤮
Mach 4 💩
they're getting the same information from the same idiots that have been ruining other companies with the same bullshit. the last mustang was all kinds of "needs to be techy bro for the youngsters"ford didn't fire those people so that nonsense will only continue.

I don’t understand all the pearl clutching about a name. Last I checked, the actual performance of the car is what really matters. Reusing a nameplate that hasn’t been around (at least here in the US) in 30-40 years isn’t going to sell cars to the next gen. Everyone knows Mustang, a Mustang Mach 4 (or whatever it ends up being named) opens up the market to those that want a little more functionality than the traditional 2 door coupe/vert but still get the 5.0 performance (hopefully). Seems like a winning proposition to me.

The Chevy SS was an awesome high horsepower sedan but it didn’t sell very well. Why? I’m guessing the very non-descript name had something to do with it. Slap the Camaro or Corvette name on it and I bet it would’ve sold better. The performance was definitely there.

Marketing is an actual thing and sometimes you need to make something it’s own brand and have offshoots from it. Look at Hyundai and Genesis. Genesis as a brand is selling well in the luxury space, likely because it has shed all the Hyundai badging and even the Hyundai name. What Ford is doing with Mustang is no different, the exception being they haven’t formally split it off as its own brand. Yet. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s coming.

I read that article about the Mach 4 in Ford Authority. And of course I commented.
This wasn't my comment exactly but Ford has so many other names that can and should be used for a 4 door, V8 powered RWD/AWD sedan. Naming everything Mustang or Mach Heresy is just an abomination.

I don't know, calling it Falcon or Thunderbird, or any of several other things makes it look like you haven't completely run out of ideas....

I make fun of it more than anything because regretfully, this generation of car designers/executives are so reliant on previous generations work. It’s pathetic. Here’s a challenge..Be bold. Make your own brand, and make it as popular as the real Mustang.
Even in music. My friends 14 YO listens to new music with old music mixed in. Why, because they simply aren’t as creative anymore and it shows in everything..I can hear it now….
Let‘s use the Mustang name so if the car flops no one can blame it on the group that named it. :like:

Fixed that for you.

How about picking names that are suitable for cars being sold in the 21st century. You guys want to bring back names that died decades ago. Mustang, as a brand, is what they have and they are using it.

To me, saying I have a Mach 1 sounds better than I have a Dark Horse. Somehow, when I hear that, I envision someone arriving with a dark pony head on a stick between their legs…..Other than that, all good.

I'd say it got less negative backlash than MachE, Mach4, etc.
Well the Mach E was a total disaster which is why we got a Mach 1 instead of a new Boss. And, if you remember, there was a lot of dislike for the DH when it was first announced. As far as the Mach 4 it's wait and see, for now.

Off hand, It may have been a Mercury, but Fo Mo made the Marauder that was a bad ass Crown Vic.
It was, I wanted one so bad when they came out. I was 15-16 at the time.

Absolute flop of a car sales wise. But man it was cool!
