It is very interesting that Farley / Ford really moved towards removing the Shelby badge from Ford, leaving it completely to the original owners. I kind was disappointed we had Ford Shelby GT350/500 listed on the ford website. Now Ford sets the ground equal - RTR, Shelby, Hennessy, Saleen they will all start on even terms in building their "on top of the basic GT" offerings, wihch is much better, and much simpler in terms of warranty handling.

I really entertain the idea of bying a 2019 GT350R which will become a true unicorn in the future. For me the most entertaining subject of the reveal was Shelby going back to Trans AM Series. They've been accused of becoming a company selling aftermarket parts from other makers just signing them with the shelby insignia. Now, going back to sports is something that I really would entertain watching / following.

It starts life as a GT, not a DH per the SA site.
Well then I agree that this sucks. No upgrade to the Dark Horse suspension or brakes is a terrible decision from SA.

EDIT: The Hagerty video starting at around 12:55 states they actually change the front struts. Vince Laviolette is speaking about what upgrades were made starting at that point.

This is more along the lines of what I was referring to. I've been around a few Shelby-produced cars and they don't really have any capabilities over what Ford does - just more power and overly expensive body kits. Shelby has always done "customer work" to help pay the bills, the company was focused on racing and that came through their models. No one is taking an 830hp Shelby mustang to the track - drag or road course.

Hopefully the trans am stuff leads somewhere

The 300a is VERY good handling and brakes wise… it’s not like an 87 foxbody.

very capable platform.. mine makes 900, no issues with 300a brakes, I put steeda springs on it but other than that it’s stock and it handle amazingly well…

shelby hit an absolute HOMERUN!!!

It is true that Shelby started with what Ford sent him and modified it. But, at least then, based on what I have read, the changes that he made had a profound impact on the reputation and performance of the "secretaries" car.

I think with the 15-20 GT350, Ford Performance really stepped up the GT350 distinctions to another level. With other forthcoming S550 models benefiting from many of the unique aspects of the GT350.

With this SA GT350, it just feels like we took a big step backwards. The parts they are using on it, are parts that they use on other "special" SA models and the whipple is almost beginning to feel like a flowmaster exhuast system on a fox body.

I'm not saying this new SA GT350 it isn't a nice car but I think we were quite spoiled by Ford Performance on the 15-20 and, imho, it is a difficult act to follow in many aspects.

Hagerty video is very good. The GT350 R is going to be interesting. Listen around 17:35. Carbon fiber tub, Alcon brakes, upgraded suspension, and different body/aero components.

And they are all just overpriced GT's with a Whipple. You can do this over the weekend in your garage.

Having their own powertrains was one of the things that made the FORD GT350/500 special. 5.4, 5.8, 5.2...TR6060, TR3160, DCT...

They have 'performance pack' listed as on option. Otherwise they don't mention it on the website

Have you ever been to Shelby in Las Vegas, drive a Supersnake or have a conversation with Gary Patterson? If you haven’t then you have no real idea what a Shelby American car is. They are certainly not perfect, nor cheap and obviously not for everyone. But they are hardly overpriced GT’s with a Whipple.

At work and can't play videos. But do they mention what wheels and tires the GT350R would get? Flow-forged wheels is kind of a step back from the CF pieces on the S550 R's.
